Can anyone still get transient dialysis treatment? It's never been so hard. My wife has been on dialysis for 8 years, and when she started this journey, we were told travel was no problem. Yeah, right, those were the days. She can't visit her parents (live 5+ hrs away) for more than a day because the treatment center local to them never has availability.
It shouldn't be this hard.

Just asking but do you call or do you have your home center call and request the dates. I am assuming you plan enough in advance when you are going. Might have better results. And when you mean no availability, do you mean that is convenient to you? Because if you are just going for one or two treatments, you are not going to get a prime time.
Local center has always made arrangements for us. We dont have contact info.
And we are looking for any time at the center local to her parents. That's what is so odd. There is no free time at all? It's like the center doesn't want to be bothered. It's not a back and forth, it's a quick NO.
We call, they are very friendly and helpful with referrals. Just tell them what you need help with and you need access to a dialysis center in the city where your parents live and you don’t have a social worker helping you make arrangements in your plan of care. Give them dates needed and see what happens.
With domestic travel you should rely on your current dialysis center to locate a place in or near your destination. They are going to have to provide your data and records anyway.
Hi, my name is Donna, I read your post and hopefully I have some info to help you with transient dialysis depending on what is offered in your area. First of all, my husband, has been on ESRF for 9 years and on hemodialysis 3x’s/wk. I am a retired nurse living with my own chronic pain disorder which has disabled me. So sorry to hear what you are going through and we understand and know how hard it is to travel travel together. So, the best thing I recommend is to contact Verida, they distribute bus tickets for transportation and have leads for the needs of more assistance for dialysis patients. The phone number is 1-855-325-7586. I’m praying they will help you see your parents 😘🙏 Love, Donna
I'm sorry you're having to go through this. You're doing the right thing by having your local clinic make those arrangements - the clinic you're visiting will need your wife's history and prescription, etc. Unfortunately, dialysis chairs are often hard to get - many are are scheduling patients back-to-back and it's also difficult to keep clinics staffed. I'd widen the net and check with other clinics in the area too. While they'll require a longer drive to get to them, it would still be a lot shorter than the 5 hour drive home. Try it and see.
