Questions so far for the Colo-Rectal surgeon. Can you think of anymore?
How many of your cases have ended in the use of a
colostomy
bag? 10a. Do you anticipate me needing a
colostomy
bag? 10b. Stoma? 11. what benefits can I expect from your treatment? 11a. Will the end result simply mask the symptoms or will it remove them completely? 12.

My meeting with the colo-rectal surgeon - Good news or a step back?
He said I'll probably still need a temporary
colostomy
bag and that again doesn't make sense..if my bowel doesn't need surgery why do I need the bag???? I need to wake up this feels like a bad dream.

Colonoscopy
I have a
colostomy
because of OC and a sudden change in bowels so have been referred back to bowel surgeon who wants to do a colonoscopy urgently and I have been given the dreaded bowel prep to empty me out so I am spending Thursday in the bathroom!

Retired Army with PCa from Agent Orange exposure in VN. Diagnosed in 2007; previous surgery for colorectal cancer with colectomy (no rectum now} so treatments and diagnosis limited. Mother much improved
She's been able to attend to her personal care needs including her new
colostomy
bag (Not bad for an 89 year old, eh?) while I was doing the shopping, cooking, light housework etc etc. I stayed for 2 weeks, coming home yesterday.

Still in a state of flux
My 89 yr old mother is recovering from her
colostomy
but is still in hospital (40 miles away) because it's healing rather slowly, although she's bright and well in herself.

Fighting & treating PPP - Primary Peritoneal Carcinoma. Help?
Anyway, she's had a few hiccups along the way, which included an emergency
colostomy
last week as the peritoneal tumor was pressing on her colon and causing a blockage.

FIGHTING BACK
The alternative was surgery to remove bladder, prostate and a
colostomy
, which was the most frightening possibility for me---very invasive surgery. Now with 20 rounds of radiation scheduled to fry, to zap the prostate and shrink the cursed thing again seems to me more actively fighting back.

Mother of a son with UC
Meanwhile we watch from a distance as he looks older and older and as his life-style gets more restricted, although he remains optimistic and tries to approach his situation cheerfully, as his close family we wonder whether his life would be better if he had a
colostomy
.

MRI RESULTS
They said that there is still some risk, but I'd rather risk it than have my bladder removed and a
colostomy
. It's going to be difficult to go to the cancer center every day, with all of the fatigue that I have, but I'll manage.

Another challenge
There is a strong possibility that I may require surgery to finally remove the prostate, but the bladder would also have to be removed, as well as a
colostomy
.

The future and a rant, its one of those days
tch, she gave me all these hopes and dreams and then put all these obstacles in my path, I don't want to be the 31 yr old girl with a
colostomy
bag, since I was a little girl all I've ever wanted is to be a Mum, I feel like that's never gonna happen now.

Ulcerative Colitis
Once it was confirmed the condition was treated with with various forms of medicine, this had small improvements, but with my daughter getting weaker, the decision was made to have the first of three operations to remove the colon and fit a
colostomy
bag.

5TH RADIATION, PSA UP SLIGHTLY
It's been quite a challenge to put up with the pain, but I was elated when the radonc told me that I could have the radiation instead of invasive surgery to remove the bladder, prostate and a
colostomy
---with the involvement of the prostate invading the bladder and up against the rectum wall.

do I ask for a 2nd opinion - emotional rollercoaster
I was then called back to see the consultant this week to be told that having reviewed my case with a fellow consultant the operation risks were too high i.e. bleeding/bowel injury (potential need for
colostomy
). Understandably - my head is all over.
