Colostomy

Starting again after being diagnosed with rectal cancer and undergoing a colostomy operation in May. I was feeling pretty down for a while, thought useful life was practically over but since starting running again I’m feeling much better (about everything!!!).

After the surgery I was told if I had left it any longer I would of had to a colostomy bag, as the endo was attached in and out side of my womb. Had amazing recovery and have felt the best, however, 18 months post op, everything has gone backwards. I thought relief would of been longer.

I’m really worried about having a colostomy bag as I know this is a risk due to the severity and rectal involvement. has anyone else experienced severe endo in this area and received surgery without colostomy ?

And was immediately reaching to feel for a colostomy bag. Thank goodness things didn’t go that far. I asked the surgeon if the dead colon part was due to cancer.

How difficult is it to work/do normal activities with a temporary colostomy bag? Thanks!

Worst case scenario is a colostomy or at very worst a illeostomy to be carried out… anything to be free of this almost constant gut ache and needing to ‘go’ constantly ( still can only manage with suppositories, enemas and a ton of movivol plus douches several times daily .)

Good morning everyone, We have been contacted by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as they are currently undertaking an assessment looking at one-piece closed stoma bags for adults with a colostomy.

He refuses to get a colostomy, and doesn't want infusion chemo. Now, I respect that because even the doctors said chemo and the surgery might kill him. But here's the thing: rectal cancer can get very messy with fecal incontinence. We don't have running water.

My surgery told me there’s a 50/50 chance I will need colostomy ( tumor pressing on my rectum). Am having a very difficult time processing and accepting the idea of colostomy for life. Would you kindly share your experiences with me? What is life like with a colostomy bag?

I was told that I was at high risk of ending up with a colostomy bag if I went for surgery, so they pushed for ‘medical management’. My first gynae had already put me on Cerelle (progesterone only contraceptive 75mg) and the gynae surgeon said I could stay on this or switch to dienogest.

I am now considering having an elective colostomy and would appreciate advise and experiences good or bad from anyone who has had a colostomy for this problem.

This resulted in an emergency surgery that left me with a huge zipper scar down my middle, a colostomy and a mountain of bills. Thankfully I am a candidate for reconnection surgery once things are completely healed from the tumor removal.

Questions I have are about if anyone gets stuck with required daily catheter use, diapers, colostomy bag (colon spread), loss of mobility for spinal issues, loss of energy to get out of bed, the average length of time (maximum?)-on a morphine drip until expiration, etc.

I have been trying to ignore symptoms of a pounding heart rate, slight headache, random muscle tension/cramps, dizziness, fever (>99), and fatigue. To be honest this has been going on (onset late evening lasting 6 hours) for a few months. I had no idea all that added up to a spike in blood pressure.
