Subtle reminder that I should be taking care of myself....
Went to the theatre to see a show.... The gentleman sat next to my husband asked him if he'd heard of lupus? And explained that he'd recently lost his wife (aged 68) who had lived with it for 40 years but suffered five strokes.... I've been eating rather a lot of my sons home baked cakes recently and

Re Meds & thank you
Hi folks, and many thanks to all of you who responded to my question re clopidogrel. After much pushing I got to see my long time GP - who is a star - and spent 25mins going through the problem, running tests etc., and this is what I learned: 1. Some of the dizziness (associated with sudden movement)

Moderate Stenosis
Hi, I have been advised that I have mild to moderate stenosis in the mid potion of the right coronary artery with a score of 43. My GP has been advised to treat me with aspirin and statins, as I am already on aspirin and statins after a blood clot scare in 2009 I don't want to take anymore tablets

The Best Measure of Cardiovascular Disease Risk
For the past 50 or so years, the medical community has psychologically conditioned their patients (and media) to focus their cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk-reduction strategies on lowering total cholesterol and more specifically LDL-C (lipoprotein cholesterol volume). Research done over the last 10

Beating the Odds
I have been diagnosed with fatty liver disease, stage 4 cirrhosis, and varicies. I had regular Blood panels done every three to four months because I take Statins so I was shocked to get this diagnosis out of the blue this spring to say the least. I have gone to a plant based diet, work out three times

Clodripogel experiences?
Hi all, Following my TIA my meds were changed do that aspirin was replaced by clodripogel, I was put on Atorvastatin and increased dosage of Lisinopril to minimize the risk of further strokes. Hydroxycarbamide stays unchanged at 9x500mg PW. All was ok for 3 weeks then I started getting severe dizziness

Is memory loss linked to thyroid problems?
Hello all, this is my first post, I'm after some advice if possible please. I am concerned about my mum who is in her mid 70s. Within the last few weeks myself and other family members have noticed she doesn't seem herself. She seems almost depressed but more worrying seems to be quite forgetful and

Cholesterol - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - a medical Furphy blindsiding unsuspecting patients
I would like to state that there is NO SUCH THING as Bad or Good Cholesterol, we are being brainwashed by manipulators. The reality is: there is HDL (which comes from our diet) and LDL which is made by our liver. Both are essential for our health. Problems arise when HDL is low and can't manage to 'ball

New study below. Looks like Simvastatin might prolong the effectiveness of Xtandi. Some will know that I favor the use of statins to shut off certain escape paths in therapies that involve the androgen receptor axis. In particular, I favor Simvastatin, but other statins that are also highly lipiphilic

Atorvastatin
I have been on Atorvastatin once daily for 8 months. I am on a "diet" that excludes animal products, i.e. "bad" cholesterol containing foods. My cholesterol level has gone down in this period from 5.3 with a reduction in dosage to 40mg 3 months ago. I had a cholesterol test last week and it has gone

Interleukin-6 and PMR/GCA
A few days ago I responded to a post in which members were questioning if statins had caused PMR. I have received messages asking for more information about my comments. In response to these questions I have written the following which I hope will be of interest and help. I am a retired clinical Pharmacist

Thrush with black tongue in baby??? Anyone come across this before. If so, please help
My son who is 7 weeks old has had difficulties feeding almost from birth. Won’t feed more than 5-10 mins max and starts crying like he’s in pain. We have persisted with breast feeding and seen the GP/health visitor/feeding support team/midwife etc... we have constantly complained about our son crying

Wellbeing in old age as well
Dear Yellow12345 and All, I am so happy to have read the posts on this site. I feel we do have a choice. I am a 63 year old active female, 5.3 height, 55kgs, who recently was diagnosed with a hip impingement, symptoms were hip pain after sitting. I went to the doctor for this ailment and was told that

Hi, I had a recent blood test which showed my cholesterol as 7.43. I'm a 37 year old female with high cholesterol, heart disease, heart attacks etc in the family. It seems I have been passed it down! New to site, 'treat as ' PMR rheumatology diagnosis July...struggling already
Great site and amazing resource. I've learned so much in recent weeks about PMR. Short background, female 68, been waiting over 12 months for rheumatology referral. Thought I had FM, knew nothing about PMR but after seeing consultant he said he thought my symptoms indicated PMR. Hands and feet xrayed
