I’m 73 and been feeling extra tired recently, otherwise fit and well. I thought the tiredness might be caused by Keppra a drug I take for epilepsy, I’m also on statins … but anyway the GP did a blood test, the Serum Alanine transaminase was ‘out of range’ at 54 u/l. (4u/l above the range of 50). I’ve

A natural cure for AF!
Ok , I started with occasional AF 15 years ago. I worked out what was causing it , usual stuff alcohol , stress, caffeine possibly salt. Mine lasted about 12/15 hours and returned to normal , started out fast heart beat , slowed after about 3/6 hours and then just out of rhythm for the rest until back

PMR update, flare, cholesterol, pre diabetes, neck, DEXA etc
Follow up to previous post a few weeks back. Many thanks for helpful comments and support on previous post. Just to recap, when I posted last, I was teetering around 2-3 mg pred after being told by rheumatologist that my PMR had gone and I needed to stop taking pred. I should have listened to my own

What is the general opinion for Statins for Diabetes 2, its side effects etc?
I will be stuck on "Statins" for diabetes, I have been on them before, I have been on diabetes since March 2020, any other alternatives?

Coronary calcium channel score
Is statin prescribing linked to Coronary Calcium score? In late 60's my recent Angiogram was fine but had a CCS score of 25. From what I've read, Statins do not eliminate existing plaque, but stop it getting worse. Always ate healthy, since a child being faddy, cut off every bit fat from meat, wouldn'teat

Statins when bloods are "normal" - for "normal" people.
I have paroxysmal afib and had a TIA 2 years ago. The afib is much improved after an ablation last year and I've been on DOACs since the TIA.My cholesterol and triglyceride levels have always been spot on and remain so but my GP surgery is desperate to get me on statins. This is because current NHS

Why so many have cardiac disease
Greetings all! My family, dad, brother, sister, all had very early cardiac disease. Why? Likely they had elevated Lipoprotein(a). That’s genetic. It was passed on to me and I passed it on. When I returned to my cardiologist after many years and with this new knowledge about Lp(a), he chose to treat

Having a STEMI in mid 40's...the search for underlying causes / answers for premature CHD.
Hi Everyone, My husband had a major STEMI in March 2023 with a full blockage of his circumflex artery. He was 44 years old and playing 5-a-side football in a local sports centre when he collapsed without warning. Thank goodness it happened there of all places however, as the swift actions of his team

PMR Flare
Dx Feb 2018 20mg Been OK on 3mg since January, testing out 2.5mg occasionally. it's my Nemesis but I'll get there eventually. However on 17th March I started taking statins (Pravastatin) as my cholesterol is raised (think GPs are on a mission with this at the moment)...all seemed OK for about 4 weeks

Beginning The journey, not quite sure why
Ok, we’ve all seen the adverts on Facebook asking for volunteers for people to join health tests/screenings etc. So I did one about two years ago on liver and found I had a fatty liver, which was moderate. Went back the next year and had got it down to mild. This year I saw one on lung cancer, they are

Help boosting thyroid without medication?
Hello all I have posted before as my thyroid function is poor but always comes back in range (my TSH never rises even with low levels) so no chance of medication on the NHS (other than statins for high cholesterol which I refuse). I did some recent tests TSH 1.95 (0.27-4.2) T4 14.6 (12-22) T3

Hello, This is my first post - last week I noticed some quite dark patches under both arms. Was seen by GP in an hour ... gave me Clotrimazole Cream which has reduced the tone of my skin. GP said it was acanthosis nigricans... ,?? Sent me for bloods including LFT and various tests FBC. These came

My Angina Story - 2024
Hi - telling my story since I'm feeling a little confused and down, and wanted to share. Last year in 2023 I was diagnosed with high blood pressure (it's been a little high for past 20 years) but GP wanted to bring it down consistently so put onto Ramipril that did the job nicely. It was early Jan

Statin drugs with ITP
Because of high LDL I started taking a statin drug a couple of months ago. I was shocked to see my platelets dropped from about 112 to 90 in just a couple of months. Is anyone else on this list on statins, and did it affect your platelett levels?

Interaction between aspirin and pred.
By way of brief summary I have had PMR since 2020. Over that time I have flared four/five times on tapering to about 5mg. I am currently on 7/6.5mg on a slow taper. Last Saturday I received a letter from my cardiologist saying that parts of my heart are not receiving an adequate blood supply. That
