Bisoprolol and ears

I have been taking Bisoprolol now for 2 years nearly. For the last months ive been having vertigo, mostly in the morning. Then a couple of weeks ago i started getting low noises in my left ear, this ear i have since found out is slightly retracted.

Its been constant... i am not sure if it was my statins that ive been taking for 3 weeks so I stopped them. I decided then to google ears and bisoprolol and it says it can effect your ears do I am wondering whether to ask dr to change heart meds.

My question is has anyone else had white noise after taking bisop (2.5 mg). I seems to be getting all sorts of side effects for different meds so wont re start statins or alendronic acid until i know ehat meds are causing what.

Thanks in advance x

this sounds as if you could be having tinnitus - look this up on the website of Tinnitus UK the specialist charity.

If this is tinnitus then it’s possible that the cause is medication, or it could be something completely different or indeed caused by nothing other than perhaps needing hearing aids.

There is a forum here on Health Unlocked for tinnitus.

Hi, nothing to do with hearing aids. I can still hear perfectly... I was just wondering if anyone else had this white noise and was taking Bisoprolol. Anybody out there happened to?

You can get hearing aids to help with tinnitus.

Hi Happyrosie I didn't realise there was a tinnitus forum on here so I'll check that out. I've had this for years and it is annoying. A hearing test showed I was borderline hearing aid for both ears, but I didn't think I could cope with two so I have one in my left ear and funny thing is when I have it in, the tinnitus disappears in that ear, perhaps I should have gone for two but they are very expensive. x

Hi , I have raging tinnitus post quadruple CABG .. definitely down to my meds , I’m on a 3rd statin to try . The intensity of the tinnitus went down when I was off statin for a month, but it was still there . I’m on lowest dose Bisoprolol 1.25mg and half a 1,2g tablet of Ramipril. Clopidogrel, pantaprazole and aspirin , then a 10mg Rosuvastatin at night. The side effects of the meds are many , have you checked the leaflet of your meds . The noise is constant . It’s very annoying 🤦🏼…

I take 10mg of bisoprolol and my ears have a lot of noise which I didn’t have years ago. I take a lot of meds so don’t know what causes it but I have a feeling bisop can cause it but I’m not sure if I’ve made that up 🤣🤣. Mostly I can ignore it but some days it’s harder than others but I try not to focus on it. X

Hello. We’re all different so have different reactions to our medication. The best thing is to tell your cardiologist or whoever prescribed Bisoprolol for you.

Hi Hippiechic,

Vertigo is something that you need to resolve before any other ear issues, as it can cause sudden loss of balance and be dangerous to yourself or others.

You say that it occurs in the morning. Do you mean first thing, as you bring yourself upright in bed? If so, it could be Benign Postural Vertigo which is triggered when you move your head in a particular way. This is easily cured using the Epley Manoeuvre, which can be performed by your doctor or you can do it for yourself. I had this issue and performed the manoeuvre at home. It took two goes to effect a permanent cure.

Although long-term use of Bisoprolol may lead to tinnitus, it is considered to be a rare side effect. I would first look to any recent changes in medication, which I believe that you are already doing.

Best wishes,

Paul
