Statin drugs with ITP

Because of high LDL I started taking a statin drug a couple of months ago. I was shocked to see my platelets dropped from about 112 to 90 in just a couple of months. Is anyone else on this list on statins, and did it affect your platelett levels?

I been on atorvastatin 20mg per day for a years and have had itp about 8 years and never had a problem with my platelets because of this but there are lots of different statins maybe speak to your doctor if platelets continue to drop

I was advised by my haematologist never to take statins as I am on Eltrombopag, apparently they prevent the drug for ITP from working. It is important that your haematologist is informed of any other drugs you are taking when being treated for ITP. For example, I was told by another doctor that I must take Omeprazole daily for another condition, which I did. When I had my next review for ITP it was discovered that my platelet count had plummeted. After a lot of probing I told my haematologist about the Omeprazole and she was horrified. I was ordered to come right off it and never consider taking it again as it is an absolute no no when taken together with Eltrombopag. My count went up immediately after stopping the Omeprazole.

yes- mine went from normal range to 4 k in 5 weeks. Rosuvistatin was the statin. Second time it’s dropped so far. In remission now.

my GP tried to put me on statins and I declined thankfully. I mentioned this to my haematologist at my next appointment. She was horrified and said under no circumstances was I to take them. And the GP must consult with her. She wrote to the GP informing him of this. Now he consults with her regarding any medication he wishes to prescribe!

Statins don’t bother my platelet numbers. I take Promacta 50 mg.
