Welcome Notanymore - congratulations on 4 days smoke free, well done!
We have several members who have successfully stopped with the aid of champix, from 1 year to 3 years smoke free. The most common side effect is vivid dreams and nausea. The sleep disruption/insomnia is unfortunately one as a result of nicotine withdrawal and likely to suffer from it even if going cold turkey.
I would suggest getting some herbal supplements from your local health food shop, they will be able to advise what is best to take. Drink plenty of water, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and a bit of a walk daily to clear the head.
Below is a pinned post on common withdrawals from nicotine worth a read if not already done so:
Hi. I was on Champix, and suffered insomnia. I found it helped to take the evening pill early - around 4pm with something to eat. Might be worth a try.
Hi there. Very very well done. 4 days smoke free 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I personally wouldn’t skip the pills. I took the ‘night’ one in the evening with dinner. That way no nausea & I slept ok (apart from strange dreams but that’s a side effect) I didn’t take any other pills with Champix. I’m now 1 year 2 months smoke free. My advice: Hit the gym. You’ll feel great & you’ll sleep well too.
I can not remember exactly how the intake was. I am cigarette free now for almost 2 years, yes with Champix. I smoked for 40 years. You can do this but just do exactly they advise you to do. I remember less sleep, dreaming, possible more side effect. Those side effects are normal, they are withdrawn signs. So you sleep a bit less.... Good luck! It does take effort you know, but everything in life does. If you want you do, and if you don't you don't.
Wow 40 years?? you made it. I have been only for 8 years. will, I must do it without champix lol. Thank you for your comment. I am 7 days smoke free without thinking about it.
Please go on! It will take a full year to be totally free. I mean, in the beginning, I liked to stand around smokers, the smell, the bit inhaling from their smoke.... Then I realize later that night, I suddenly want to light a cigarette. The moments of graving come and go, but they appear less and less. I try not to be around smokers because the moment at night will stay, your brain recognizes it! and you think I like to smoke.
Also, make with yourself a commitment. Never again! Not even to try how it tastes now after so many weeks nothing. I did that, one cigarette, it was not nice. The next day another one, it tasted better. Then I realize what I was doing, and said: NO! Now I am kind afraid for the cigarette, because I know I do like it, not the first one, but after the first one..... NO, never again! I don't want! I am almost 55years old. Perhaps I am just about OK, and hopefully, my lungs are turning white again, OK of-white, I will go for that! Good luck
I also quit with champix but found the recommended dose too strong and giving me very disturbed sleep. I talked to my doctor and together we decided to try halving the daily dose but still using all the medication. It worked fine and I've been smoke free for over 2 years.
