Severe Depression

MorningDanceTrece profile image

I'm starting to wonder more and more if the severe depression in which I've been for a couple few years now is more closely related to the Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder than anything else that I have.

I'm thinking of exploring EMDR therapy.

Has anybody tried that and if yes what do you think?

Does anybody have any suggestions about how to do deep inner emotional healing from trauma?

Some of the feelings, emotions, moods, and thoughts that I'm experiencing are a lot of resentment, bitterness, unforgiveness, and hate that I don't want to have in addition to basically no executive function.

EDIT TO ADD HELPFUL FACTOIDS:

So I am in basic talk therapy with an awesome therapist for I believe 4 years now but definitely three (we started in the month of August).

I have been in therapy off and on since I was 14 and more on the last 30 years approximately.

I am on medication and I literally just talked to my psychiatrist today and we decided to go up one small step on the antidepressant but I don't know when I'm going to be able to get it from the pharmacy but hopefully within the next two weeks.

I'm trying to take especially formulated omega-3 supplement that is supposed to help with moods and emotions and feelings and irritability and stuff like that.

Because it's a supplement it has a very short half-life and has to be taken every 12 hours with food that has fat.

Because I'm so severely depressed I become anorexic and I'm basically only been eating once a day for the last 6 months so I don't know if this specially formulated EPA containing only Omega-3 supplement going to be able to work.

And thank you very much everyone who has already responded for your kind and loving responses which mean a lot to me 🤗😼👍🏻

Hi MorningDanceTrece,

I am very sorry to hear that you are experiencing severe depression.

I think it is a great idea to look into EMDR and there are other modalities as well.

I had somatic experiencing and at the time it was helpful. It depends on a trauma and what approach is best.

We are here for you...

Hi MorningDanceTrece,

I haven't tried EMDR therapy, so can't help you there..

I am currently seeing a trauma informed psychotherapist who is also trained in Internal Family System therapy (IFS)

Have you read Pete Walker's book? A brilliant book about cPTSD. My first introduction to it and very informative. It can be a difficult read, so I read in small chunks at a time.

My therapist also suggested Janina Fisher's Workbook. I am starting today for 10 minutes a day.

I hope you find something that can help you start your healing journey. I'm very new to it.

i’m very sorry to hear about your depression. I spent a year having EMDR it helped me enormously. I remember clearly the day she looked at me and said it’s not your fault Liz I remember feeling raw inside, and the truth finally surfaced it was not my fault. the tears came and came and came. I cried for most of a week until my next session and when I told my counsellor, she said it’s good you are starting to feel.. and she was right, it’s no good bottling up hate anger it doesn’t do you any good. if you think of a bottle of pop that you shake up when you open it goes all over the place that’s what happens when you bottle up all the anger and hate. .Let it go let it stop to heal.Someone said to me once if you push down anger into the darkness, it loves it down there when you bring it to the light, it doesn’t like it.Bringing it into the light and talking about it frees you from pain of the anger and depression.Stay strong ,have faith you will see in time that your healing is working.Keep a diary and write it every day.believe me it helps take care. God bless you love Liz. 🙏🤗

I have done EMDR and inner child work.

I think it might be very helpful to try the EMDR. I started with talk therapy and did EMDR after a year. When I completed EMDR I continued with talk therapy and IFS. Going in that order was very successful for me.

I think it's great to explore options. There are so many things available now.

Best of luck to you
