hi everyone. I've been struggling pretty bad these past couple years and I think it's time to look into treatment, but I'm not sure where to start. talk therapy has always done more harm than good, so that's a no. other than that there's a whole lot out there and I'm not even sure where to start researching. any suggestions or advice?

I think it's wonderful news that you have decided to seek treatment.
Im curious how old you were when you started therapy? You are so young. I'm wondering if things might be a bit easier as an adult. You can speak up now and guide your own therapy.
I think whatever you choose it has to be a slow process, especially in the beginning. Everyone in therapy needs to establish connection and safety.
I'm going to do some google research and come back in.

Some suggestions are CBT, Group Therapy, EMDR. I've done a few group therapies and I've also done EMDR.
Other things brought up were reiki, hypnosis, art therapy and quite a few more.
I think it comes down to your level of comfort as to where you want to begin. I think it's great you want to investigate the different options that are available to you
hi thanks so much for replying. I first started cbt when I was 15 and tried different therapists on and off til I was about 18. I'm a bit stressed about choosing the wrong thing but I think as I research my options that should go away. I'll always be a bit anxious to try something new anyway haha. I think group therapy could definitely be something that benefits me I'll have to see of there's any local to me
It's awesome that you are open to what's out there and taking the time to do your homework before jumping in
None of us can walk into a new situation without some anxiety. If something doesn't feel right you can make changes.
Do you use any other tools/cooing skills? I like to exercise, do yoga, meditate and practice mindfulness.
yes! I take almost daily walks at a nature park near me and it's so so healing. I also love music and journaling, and I've also been practicing mindfulness as much as I remember to haha. I've also been working really hard recently at getting the things I can't do in moderation under control, and I feel like that's been giving me some clarity and motivation.
You are fantastic!!!
I love reading this
awww thank u. yeah it really took getting to my lowest but I'm committed to learning how to get better and function as a person. the more I think about it the anxiety turns into excitement. I think that's a good sign it's time to get healthy
Are you aware that all mental health providers are obligated to have a synopsis page? I got a list of providers from my insurance and googled each of them. I was able to find one that worked with all of my conditions and had a similar feel to her synopsis.
yes ! someone on here who's been helping me showed me and I think I may have found a psychiatrist I want to work with :]
Hi static,
I have done somatic experiencing therapy based on the method by Peter Levine.
There are videos on YouTube From Peter Levine explaining the method.
He first started it in 1969.
There are other solutions.
We have a topic "therapy experiences".
have you looked into emdr? It seems to work for some people. You could also read books or plistento podcasts.
