I'm sorry you didn't receive a reply before. I can't help with the op cancellation/blood test issue but do you know what stage/severity of endo you have and why they are removing your ovaries? Also can ask how old you are?
Hi , thanks for the reply , I'm 42 and had surgery in 2019 for removal of endos from my ovaries and behind my womb the pouch of douglas I think they called it they never gave me a stage of the endos but ive been on and off Prostap injections the last 3 years due to chronic pain x
Hi .Yes many years ago I was due to have a cyst removed but due to low potassium levels they would not perform the procedure as I was at risk of a cardiac arrest. Drs had to find out the cause of the low potassium which took many months and resulted in another operation to cure it. I did have my cyst removed prior to this however I required medication to treat the low potassium..
Hi,Can't help with the blood test results but believe me, I feel your pain. Finally, had my op 3 weeks ago but it had been rescheduled 4 times for various reasons. Cried every single time. The first time, the surgeon was 'unavailable', the second time the anaesthetist called in with covid and they couldn't find a replacement, the third time I tested positive for covid (a false positive may I add) and fourth time finally, it happened. All I can tell you is that the staff at my hospital (St Mary's in Manchester) did everything they could to get me back in as soon as possible. Can't believe they cancelled for what seems like such a trivial issue. Take a supplement - problem solved. Really hope this happens for you soon x
Thank for your reply, Oh gosh 4 times it got rescheduled that's crazy. You sort of get yourself prepared then it's a real let down when they cancel. I hope your recovery is going smoothly. I have got myself some B12 supplements so hopefully they will help x
I work for the NHS in admissions for another surgical specialty and also am currently recovering from my first laparoscopy to diagnose+ treat endo which was cancelled and re-arranged several times due to other health problems I have. I understand how frustrating and stressful it is to have your surgery cancelled but I just wanted to reassure you that postponing your surgery due to low B12 is for your own safety. Any type of aneamia whether its iron-deficiency, B12 or folate, can make surgery and aneasthesia more risky. It is also important to try to find out why your B12 levels are low.
My advice to you would be to contact your GP and explain the situation, (if you haven't already). Depending on how deficient you are you may be able to have B12 injections or you can get advice about or a prescription for the best supplements.
If you haven't already get in touch with the gynae admissions/waiting list team and ask what they advise in terms of getting re-dated as soon as possible. I dont know if its the case at your hospital but at some hospitals some specialities keep a list of people who are available at short notice if there is a cancellation on a theatre list - once your B12 levels are back to normal this can be a way of getting your surgery quicker. I would say though to be aware that short notice can mean very short notice - i.e. around a week or less!
