I have adenemyosis and endometriosis. Recently been told I need to take the prostap injection as I have multiple fibroids, one big one growing 10cm currently. I am really worried about side effects, I have high cholesterol I have high blood pressure. I don't need any more to make things worse. But my gynaecologist has said I need to take this prior to surgery. for the ones who have had this injection what was your experience? Any advice appreciated Thanks

Prostap injections.

Hi I'm on prostrap injections and I've found no issues apart from weight gain so I've started strength training. They have sorted out all of my pain and bleeding problems. I was also told to take vitamin d supplements. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. Have a peaceful day sending safe hugs 🤗
Hello
I had zoladex and then prostap for endometriosis. I had tibolone hrt tablets the first two rounds then changed to evorel patches. Zoladex without hrt is a living nightmare. My hands would drip with sweat. With hrt barely a glow! These injections are used to stop the endometriosis or fibroids growing as they feed off the hormones. By putting you in a false menopause it stops the growth. Prostap injections are easier than zoladex. It goes in your arm and is no worse than a flu jab. Zoladex goes in your stomach either side never central or too low. Zoladex hurts to have and I always had lidocaine numbing injections first. Also gp surgeries don’t stock prostap you have to get it on perscription and order it yourself and take it to your nurse appointment so a bit of a pain. Hope all goes well.
I was on zoladex for 14 months and did well on them. If you suffer from PMDD then it can be life changing. I was on them for hemorrhaging as I have fibroids and endometriosis. I also have high cholesterol but the injection only made it slightly higher. I'd give it a go prior to surgery. Zoladex made my cervix and fibroids shrink so surgery was easier. I'm now 11 days post op. I'd recommend asking for addback HRT. Chemical menopause would be tough without this. Everyone responds differently to these drugs but they can really help. Opt for Prostrap over zoladex if you can as it's a much easier injection.
Hi, I just had my last prostap injection yesterday and I am pretty gutted that I can’t continue with it (I was only allowed to have the injections for 6 months) the injection has literally changed my life! I have been near enough pain free for the past 6 months and had no bleeding at all. I did find that I put a lot of weight on in the first month but this just made me have a more healthier outlook on life and I increased my exercise and made better food choices and I have now lost the weight and a little bit more too. I did find the HRT tibolone didn’t agree with me at first and did make me feel quite nauseous at times but I just stuck with it as the one day I missed taking it I did notice quite a lot of menopausal symptoms in a very short space of time, so that made me realise that the HRT was obviously doing its job! Good luck with it all x x x
My Gynae has told me I will be on this until surgery which is in 12 months time. Was the weight gain due to increased appetite? I already am struggling with weight. Thanks for taking time out and replying to my post. xx
Hi, I think the weight gain was mostly water retention and bloating as my appetite decreased actually as I felt nauseous for the first few months. As soon as my body got used to the injection things just seemed to settle and I lost the weight I put on but I did find the first month hard with the initial weight gain and I felt a lot of it went to my face. I just had to tell myself at the time that the weight gain was a small price to pay for the reduction of the pain and heavy bleeding! It is hard and can feel really deflating when medication causes weight gain x x
I have a gnhr analogue injection monthly, called zolodex with tibilone HRT. It gave me great relief from pain, heavy and prolonged bleeding. Then I went into natural perimenopause and switched to a HRT patch.
It was an adjustment for sure but the tibilone helped take away the side effects of the injection.
The benefit was also that it showed me that a hysterectomy was a choice I wanted to make. Just over 2 weeks post op with everything removed. I feel wonderful! The post op pain was nowhere near the pain before my op and the feeling very unwell all the time.
It’s different for everyone and nobody can guess how their own body will react. I think it’s worth a try as it could bring you great relief!
I am 47 and already in perimenopause. did you stop during perimenopause? x
No. I switched from tibilone to Everol conti 50mgs in patch format. Periods came back during Zolodex and tibilone. The patch took that away but I had to have Tranexemic acid to nuke the horrific bleeding. Until I absorbed with the patches. They wouldn’t stick lol! Found something that helped, eventually!
I don’t know if you’re aware but when perimenopause symptoms come, the GP should prescribe HRT. Personally this made me feel much better. Hope you get sorted soon lovely 🫂💞
My gp did prescribe hot, but I wasn't sure about the oestrogen as my endo is already bad. x
Honestly, I don’t know enough to have an opinion. The Endo Specialist can answer that.
But my patch is estrogen and progesterone. My Endo Specialist prescribed it and she wouldn’t have done that if it was going to make my Endo worse.
You could ring the hospital switchboard, ask for your Consultants secretary and ask the question to the Consultant.
Mine said it was not an amount of estrogen that would cause a problem for any Endo growth.
Hope that helps 🫂💞
Hi. I am terrified as well. I have had to come of all hrt to stop the endometriosis growing then I’m to have the injection. I’ve had bipolar for 20 years and had post partem psychosis after giving birth.
Hiya
I completely understand your concerns. I have been on the prostap injections for nearly six months now. All I can say is that I wish I’d taken it sooner. It’s been life changing. Not just because it’s stopped the bleeding, I’m still getting pain but nowhere near as bad.
I have recently been diagnosed with PMDD, the difference between how I was before the injection and now, I’m a different person. It’s made me realise just how bad my symptoms were prior to this. It’s also confirmed that having a hysterectomy is the correct choice for me.
I too have high cholesterol. It hasn’t changed since being on it. In relation to perimenopause symptoms, I was so much worse before I started the injections. I was sweating from places I didn’t even know existed 😂 and this was constant. These have reduced significantly. I’ve also taken the decision not to take the HRT just yet.
I have put on weight also since started this, but personally I feel it is worth it. Tbh my weight has constantly been up and down anyway, and always felt I looked very pregnant with my swollen endo stomach (something that has also reduced since starting treatment) at least I know the weight gain is due to something positive. The weight gain to me looks like it’s water retention too.
You know your body better than anyone, and only you can make the right decision for you. The fear of the thought of taking another hormone or my hormones being affected was scary, but I’m so glad I took the chance.
I really hope things improve for you! I’m Here if you want to reach out, or have any questions, just send me a message xx
Thank you for taking time out and messaging me. good to hear you're doing ok on the injections, I am going to get the one month dose to begin with. did you loose much hair? I already have very fine hair.
Hiya
You’re welcome. I was already shedding hair, I think due to being perimenopausal. I have continued to do so on the prostap, maybe a bit more than I was.
I’ve just been monitoring it, and trying supplements to try help with the shedding. Not everybody has the hair issue. If you are trying the monthly injection, it gives you the option to stop it sooner if you end up having problems with hair loss.
Hopefully you’ll be great on it, and find it beneficial. Let me know how you get on xx
