Dr. cut me off cold turkey

My primary stopped my Xanax with no warning. Not only that but he lied to me about it. At my last visit, I asked him twice if the rx had gone through to the pharmacy because I had ha trouble with him. He assured me it was sent. I waited and the pharmacy & I kept trying. Nobody from his office would call me back. So I made an appointment during which he said he didn’t recall being asked twice. I tried everything I knew-seizures, etc. & NOTHING. He wouldn’t help me taper. NOTHING.

I’m in Fl.

Any suggestions? I’m terrified.

I don't understand what you mean by he didn't recall being asked twice?

What was his reason for no taper?

Go above him. There must be someone that is higher up than him. Make a phone call to this person.

Thanks. I can’t get anywhere with this office nor see ANYONE in the HUGE practice. I’m calling around to other places but everyone has a wait or needs a referral. Are you in Fl? Just asking because of the dolphin name :)

Lol no I'm in Massachusetts.

I don't understand why a medical professional would do that. It's ridiculous.

Someone has to be pushed to do something for you.

Hello! Massachusetts here too!

👍

You should go to the ER. Not trying to scare you but xanax withdrawals are bad. Explain your situation and they should help you.

What dose were you on.

You should go to the ER and tell them you were stopped cold turkey from your benzos.

Benzo withdrawal can be serious if the dose has been for a long time and what the dosage was.

I had a Dr try to do this and I called her out. I told her it was illegal to just stop the prescription and she ended up giving me a months supply to taper.

Doesn't sound like this will be possible for you though.

At the very least, monitor yourself closely. Have a friend stay with you if you don't have a partner. Go to the hospital if you start feeling unwell.

You will, unfortunately, experience an uptick in your anxiety most likely so just be prepared for that but know it will pass.

"First, do no harm". Doctors need to remember this.

Yes, they do. Omission can do as much harm as doing something.

3 mg/day as needed. For years he gave me 4. So I don’t understand not helping me taper.

Maybe someone’s cracking down on him. Or maybe he’s cracked.

How are you feeling?

I’m alright. I haven’t had to go to the ER because I had enough to get through. I’m extremely agitated, though. My son is holding them in case I feel desperate & take extra.

I have a dr. appt. tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

Thanks...

This sound very unusual. Usually a doctor will discuss with your why they are taking you off the benzo or prescribe something else. Are you taking any other meds that they feel might counteract with it? Also they are told to watch for any unusual behavior related to the rx. I am only telling you this because it is so unusual that a doctor would just cut you off without an explanation. My only other thought is to see another doctor and calmly explain your situation and hope they understand. I had luck when I changed doctors in the past year to have a compassion doctor that was ok with prescribing xanax, but I can tell she is still very watchful of it.

Hi,

The fact that he wouldn’t help me taper or at least give me a few so I could get somewhere just BLOWS MY

MIND!

My visit in December went exactly as usual for the past 5 years.

I am beyond frustrated.

Thanks for writing,

G

Report him to ombudsman, he can’t cold turkey that, she another doctor and take melatonin or CBD , to calm your mind and you will be less likely for Xanax side effects. But another doctor appointment should be scheduled and the other doctor should be reported

Will do as soon as I’m safe with a new dr.

Thanks. I’d never heard of them before.
