Hi I've been on pramipexole for 15 yrs for restless legs. I've googled this medication as my legs were getting worse. Found out this can happen so wanted to come off it. Have a cousin in America he was on it to he said it hurt him badly. Has anyone dealt with this drug. Mirapex I think it's called over in the states

Been on pramipexole for quite a while. 0.008 mgs, Have upped the dosage as my RSL has worsened. Used to start in the evening. now it starts in the afternoon. Do you know what is the safest dose ?

Hi I'm on .125 that's the starting dose. My legs got worse but never upped it.How long have you been on it. Me14 yrs.I did some research as I started getting bad restless legs cramping and this horrible stiffness. When I researched it it said it will make your legs worse after awhile. But it says it affects body movement which I now have and the stiffness so cannot do a lot. I'm going off it it's suppose to have a black label on it warning if the damage it can do. Because I was up all night Friday night with my restless legs I researched it and was shocked. My cousin in the USA was on it for ten yrs and told me it was dangerous at the time I couldn't understand why. Now I know with the stiffness. Please Google it and find out yourself. My cousin is going to get back to me to tell me what it did to him. He said it hurt him badly. But I will keep u informed. It also causes augmentation which means the restless feelings spread to other parts of the body. I haven't got that. I just hope I can win off, and the stiffness goes, as I said I can't do a lot because the pain the stiffness causes. I will try and find where I got about how dangerous it is and let you know.I live in Australia it's called mirapex in USA

Hi, Pramipexole (Mirapex), Ropinirole (Requip), Rotigotine (Neupro), and Levodopa (Larodopa) are Dopamine Agonists and WERE standard treatment for RLS. No more prescribed by informed prescribers. I was on Mirapex for 20+ years. It worked until I had to keep increasing the dose and then I AUGMENTED and the Mirapex actually made my RLS MUCH WORSE. This is common for most users of DA's. It took me months to SLOWLY taper off the Mirapex. Those of us who were on DA's consider them to be POISON. We find that quitting DAs is worse than stopping Heroin. Getting off is very complicated. PLEASE search "restless legs" on this website. There is a FANTASTIC blog dealing with RLS.

healthunlocked.com/rlsuk

You will learn the dangers of DA's and how to save yourself from the insanity of augmentation. The blog will tell you what the current treatment options are and specific doctors who are up on proper RLS treatment. Most doctors are ignorant about RLS treatment!!! There are excellent doctors in Australia and the blog members will give you suggestions. Save yourself from the DA nightmare that awaits you! Also, there are many psych drugs that will make RLS go crazy. Welbutrin and Trazadone are safe for RLS. Join the blog: healthunlocked.com/rlsuk

Is the anxiety because of our thoughts about it all. I'm a anxiety sufferer anyhow . I got to be careful what I take as a lot of meds push my salt down. I gather your of the Sifrol has your restless legs eased

Tapering off of Sifrol was the first step for me. I also went under the care of an RLS expert in Boston. Because I have anxiety and depression, I learned that some of the meds that I was taking made my RL worse. I think that the lack of sleep makes our anxiety and depression much worse. I also had to switch BP meds. You will learn that Gabapentin is the proper medication for RL. I stopped all salt intake because of my high BP.

I was taking much more. That is the problem with Pramipexole. I kept needing more and more. Then I was augmenting and my life fell apart. I discovered this blog by accident and that saved me!

Yes, things got better, but only because I researched a doctor who specialized in RLS. In your posts, state the town that you live in and ask for a doctor who can help you. Any meds that you are now taking may be making your RL worse. Tell the blog the meds that you take and ask if they are problem meds.

RL continues after pramipexol. I take Gabapentin and have had iron infusions. I'm also trying CBD THC. I see my neurologist every few months. The RL don't have a cure. Some people need to take low dose opiates. Have the Blog postings emailed to you daily. Ask the blog about a good doctor near you.

I will I put I. Where I live but reading everything here I gather the restless legs aren't as bad coming off pramipexole. Otherwise why we coming off and going on worse drug

2islandboy profile image

Because Pramipexole and other DAs destroy our Dopamine Receptors and send our brains down a nasty rabbit hole. Gabapentin is not a horrible drug. It's your choice. You are lucky that you are on a low dose.

Thanks for your reply. Not sure if it makes a lot of difference being on low dose. As long as the restless legs get a bit better after I discontinue. I used to manage it myself then doctor suggested Sifrol. I didn't know better. As for the rabbit hole I have a great support his name is Chris from vacate fear he preaches Claire weeks method. I've been having therapy with him for years his very knowledgeable and has overcome the worse anxiety and panic.
