this is a link to symptoms of B12 deficiency in case anything on the list rings bells.

pernicious-anaemia-society....

B12 deficiency tends to develop over years and sometimes decades and having had gall bladder surgery puts you in a particular risk category as it can affect the ileum which is where most of your B12 from your diet is absorbed.

The stomach issues - gas etc - may be down to low stomach acidity - even if it involves acid reflux - the symptoms of high and low stomach acidity are pretty much the same.

Please also take a look at the PAS forum on HU as getting a B12 absorption problem diagnosed and treated properly can be extremely difficult.

don't be fooled by the name pernicious anaemia - anaemia is a (potential) symptom - it isn't a defining characteristic - and in fact you PA is strictly speaking one particular cause of B12 deficeincy that will lead to a B12 deficiency - and it is the B12 deficiency that leads to the symptoms. surgical procedures compromising the ileum is another.

testing for B12 deficiency is generally done using a test called serum B12 but it is a problematic test as it will miss 25% of people who are deficient and pick up 5% who aren't if it is used as a single test so symptoms are very important - but can also be quite difficult to assess because they overlap with a number of other conditions - including thyroid and diabetes.

macrocytic anaemia (enlarged and rounder red blood cells) isn't present in 25% of people presenting with B12 deficiency.

Please do take a look at the PAS forum if raising with your GP - unfortunately B12 deficiency isn't as well understood as it should be
