Someone please help me figure this out :-/

Okay so about 3 months ago I went to the ER because I was having chest pains, at the ER they did 2 EKG tests, heart monitor, blood tests, and a chest X-ray. Everything came back normal except in the first EKG they told me I had arrhythmia (at this time i was very anxious) and they second EKG they did was after they gave me some Ativan and I was a lot more calm and that one came out normal. They also told me my potassium levels were low, but as of right now they are back to normal. About a month after that I started getting a lot of heart palpitations (still having them) it feels like a skipped beat, and then a thud. Sometimes they last all day and sometimes they only happen when I'm lying down or sitting. They could be happening anywhere from every few seconds, or every minute. I went to my doctor and she thinks it might be anxiety, but she ordered me a holter monitor (still haven't gotten it I don't know why it's taking so long). But now, starting yesterday I've been getting this weird feeling in my stomach and chest. It's hard to explain but it feels like the feeling you get when you're startled and your heart and stomach "sink". Almost like a nervous feeling, it can also be described as the feeling you get when you see something like a ghosts and it freaks you out for a second. This feeling keeps happening, it happens every minute or so, sometimes a few minutes. I don't know what is causing it and it's freaking me out!!! I have pretty severe anxiety, especially health anxiety. I freak out over my health all the time. I don't really have very many panic attacks anymore (I used to have them allllll the time) but I do feel anxious a lot, and I also worry about my health a lot. I just want answers, is there something seriously wrong with me or is it just anxiety?? Does anyone else experience anything similar??

Hi,

I'm brand new here and haven't posted/replied to anyone yet but I thought I would give it a go :)

First of all I have been exactly where you have been and it was an emtional and physical rollercoaster. I literally couldn't accept that there was nothing wrong with my heart to the point I even stayed on the cardiac ward at my local hospital hooked up to the monitors for five days straight.

I gave a few abnormal ECGs and my potassium was also a little low. It amounted to absolutely nothing. All anxiety. I had MRI scans, holter monitors everything.

I know it's so hard to believe that you're ok, but honestly they wouldn't let you go out and about walking around if they believed your heart wasn't hunky dory.

I really hope you manage to relax a little soon and find some peace .

Kind wishes , Vicki

I used feel that freaky feeling all the time, it kind of felt like when you drive over a hill or on a rollercoaster, your tummy kind of turns over, like when your in a lift and it moves down or like when you get a sudden fright, classic anxiety symptom xxx

Sounds like ectopic heartbeats. They are harmless but are disconcerting. They wont cause any damage to your heart and are aggravated by stress, tiredness, a full stomach, lying down, cigerettes and caffeine amongst other things. Evenif you had over a thousand od these a day your cardiologist would not be concerned. As unusual as this might sound they are apparently common but only some of us feel them. Have your dr refer you for echocardiogram for your peace of mind snd to help you relax, Also look up York Cardiologist on utube. He has a great way of explaining what they are and how they feel and will give you some reassurance on their insignificance , Have had them best part of my life and can honestly say since ive stopped worrying about them they have decreased in number. Wishing you well x

I'm happy I stumbled upon this page as I've been going through the exact same thing for a few months now. I've been getting many panic attacks as well and am not sleeping well. All the answers given have been helpful and like to thank everyone for responding with great information. I really hope this is helping you as well. I know I will be worried when it happens again but I usually try to do breathing exercises and take a seat to try and calm down while it does it's course. I've been on Trazodone for sleep for about 3 weeks (very low dose 8-12.5 mg, as I'm very sensitive to meds) and for the last 2 days it's finally calming down as it was almost constant all day long before, same for the anxiety.
