I've had big time success Mike. Enough so I was able to wean off my benzos

and just use Lexapro. I wish for you the same. :) xx

Awesome to hear. Im going straight from zoloft to lexapro. Hopefully it works right away so i dont need my ativan

Possibly Mike...each person is different. Let's hope the switch goes smoothly

but do not take it as a failure if you do need to reach for Ativan until you get

stabilized. Good Luck :) xx

Agora1- what dose of lexapro do you take? I'm only on 10mg for a year now and still feel anxious and worry most of the time. I feel I need an increased dose or possibly new med. seeing MD on Wednesday

If youve been on it so long and it hasnt helped why havent you changed ssris?

I was between docs. Finally seeing new one this week. I feel better than last year at this time, but not 100%. When I first started it, I took 0.5mg ativan daily for about 6weeks. Take occasionally now. Hope switch helps you. Keep us posted.

I have been taking .25mg ativan because ive had mild headaches and stiff neck and lightheadedness everyday. Increased anxiety from the zoloft i guess. But ill keep posted. Did your doctor care if you took the ativan everyday?

Anxiouslisa in reply toMike7777

No, she actually encouraged it to get me thru the initial anxiety of starting a new med. it definitely helped and by week 6 I was able to just take the lexapro. Writing this I realize how much it has actually helped (lexapro) , but like I said, I think I could feel better. Lots of breakthrough anxiety this past month.

Hi Anxiouslisa, I was on 15mg for 6 1/2 years just went up to 20mg a few months

You need to increase it to 15 mg

Mike7777 profile image
Mike7777 in reply toAgora1

How much ativan did you used to take?

Agora1 profile image
Agora1 in reply toMike7777

For the first 30 years, I was on 0.25mg (Xanax) once a day, when that no longer worked

I was in the hospital and they put me on the highest dose of Ativan and then started to

bring me down from there since it didn't work. But that ws because I had been

on Xanax so long that nothing compared to that. I really don't remember the

dosage for Ativan. Sorry

in reply toAgora1

What do you mean nothing compared to the Xanax ?

Agora1 profile image
Agora1 in reply to

Chrisipal... after being on Xanax for 30 years, my body got dependent on

it's quick acting relief. For me within 15-20 min. None of the other benzos

they tried could compete for the quick relief (For Me) That's not to say that

the other drugs aren't effective but it was time for me to move on to an

SSRI that has given me the balance of chemicals that I needed for anxiety. xx

I have been avoiding Lexipro because I’m anxious about taking medications. I have been using CBD oil which helps.

Helped my anxiety and depression. I can work and do lots of things. But I feel like it made me gain some weight

I took Paxil for 10 years then it pooped out then I took celebs for 10 years then it pooped out I took Zoloft and that pooped out in 2 months... everything’s different for different people.

Did you not like the zoloft? It was my second time taking it and it made things worse so im going on lexapro

Bee1232 profile image
Bee1232 in reply toMike7777

I didn’t like Zoloft I felt more manic in Zoloft after that I read that taking an antidepressant without a mood stabiliser can make that happen... but I had pretty good luck on celebs and Paxil I was on both of them for 10 years each

Mike, good luck tomorrow on starting Lexapro. Take it with an open mind

that this WILL work for you. Don't put any doubts in your mind. It will give

it a chance to work better. I take mine after lunch, was told it metabolizes

better with food. But follow your doctor's directions, he knows what is best

for you. Let me know how you are doing and if you have any questions :) xx

I’ve been taking Lexapro for 4 months. 10 mgs. It was tough with side effects for first 2 weeks and then got better and better. Took around 6 weeks for me to feel relaxed that it was working and I was able to go with it and know that it was going to be good for me. Now very good on it. Much more level, no longer “sweating the small stuff”. Still myself but a more relaxed version! Good luck & give it time 😊

I've been taking lexapro for almost 10 years and I think it's a really good antidepressant. I've taken a lot of them, even Zoloft. Everyone seems to respond differently, though. But for me, it worked fairly well for depression.

It’s a great AD I have been on it over the last 9 years, it did stop working after 4 years, so I went on Zoloft, then last year I went back on Lexepro and it’s working fine I am on 10mg no side effects, it’s the U.K.s most prescribed AD now.

I was speaking with someone today who came out and said they have been taking lexapro for the last 6 years and its been working wonders...good luck.

Mike, first off let me say how very sorry I am that you are struggling with your mental health. Anxiety and panic hit me 4 years ago and it has been quite a journey to say the least. I have been on Lexapro for a little over 3 years. I have had good luck with it. At first I experienced nausea for a few weeks but that passed and I have done well since then. I tried Zoloft once and found it too stimulating for me but lots of people have luck with it. I also take a tiny bit of Klonopin each night and also a tiny bit of remeron. I am currently trying to wean off the remeron and klonopin but I will stay on the Lexapro, probably for life if necessary. I wish you well, just don't give up! If I can get better any one can.

Well it sounds like Lexapro isnt that bad however again I guess I am just afraid of the side effects. I am already a hypochondriac. I dont need to be any more anxiety stricken than I am now.

haltcatchfire in reply tojocie609

I personally haven't noticed any side effects to Lexapro, and I feel you on what you're dealing with. I'm working with my therapist on my own somatic disorder. Lexapro seems to be a fairly well-received medication and has actually been designed to help remove some of the other side effects that Celexa has.

haltcatchfire profile image
haltcatchfire

I started on Celexa and then switched to Lexapro (similar drug). I switched primarily because I wasn't convinced Celexa was working for me, but my wife has noticed a change for the better on the Lexapro. SSRIs are better options from what I understand, so I'm glad you're switching to those! I agree with those who say "be patient" with it. Switching drugs is a tricky thing.

Praying things go smoothly for you!

How are you doing on your first week on the new meds?

Yes, I've been on lexapro 20mg for 6mo now and i feel so much better. I couldn't turn off my head at night it would continually race with thoughts and couldn't sleep. Now it makes me feel more calmer and focused

Maybe you need a higher dose

Mike7777 profile image

Maybe, or do you think its too high since its increased my anxiety?

LovePurple2 profile image

Mike777, my doctor started me on Lexapro 16 days ago 10mg 1 tablet per day at dinner & lowered my Zoloft from 150mg down to 50 mg 1 x aday & I been on Zoloft since 2003 he doesn't think the zoloft is working for me. I been having terrible anxiety every day & the Lexapro hasn't start working for me & wondering when it will & how long it will take? I will see my doctor this month on the 15th & praying it starts to work soon!
