Hi my dad was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in Oct 2021. With Mets to spine, lungs, liver. He is 85.
His PSA was 5000. (Today 28 months later his PSA is 0.031 and still dropping) He was told at the time he had 2 months to live. He had spinal surgery the morning after being diagnosed because of a tumour on his thoracic spine. 1 month later he had 3 radiation treatments. He did not have chemo. He was paralyzed. Told he would never walk again. Also Mets to the liver and lungs.
He’s been on daily Abiraterone 1000 and prednisone 5 mgs and ELIGARD shot every 6 months. Also supplements high doses Curcumin, c60, garlic, ionic calcium, Vit D, and more and THC/CBD. He eats a very clean 95% whole foods diet. Mediterranean diet. My dad has tremendous faith in God.
After 2 months dad began to walk with a walker. 3 months after that he was back to gardening. We sent all caregivers home, the bedlift went back the wheelchair was returned. He did some rehab asap after surgery. He’s still walking. And was scrubbing the front and back decks at the house this week. All doctors are surprised. His GP says “you’re dad has surprised us all.”
Last week the oncologist called . He says my dad is remarkable. He is shocked at his recovery. He said your dads PSA is at 0.031 and is still dropping. The PSA has been consistently low for almost 2 years. He said your dad had a really bad cancer and to keep doing whatever we were doing at home. He also changed their appts from every 3 months to 6 months and labwork from every month to every 3 months. He has also said the CT scan from a few months ago does not show anything in lungs and just the tiniest of one speck in liver that they would do nothing about.
I’m grateful for each day.
There is hope. There is a healing path. Everyone’s journey is unique.

Hmmm. What seems puzzling, is that he was “in the system “ from 2007, when prostate was removed and radiation, how did he fall through the cracks such that his PSA was allowed to rise to such a high score as 5000?
Just wanted to say, I needed to hear this today; my FIL just had a CT showing mets on liver, kidneys, bladder, and pelvis, while also in kidney failure. Hoping and praying for the best, but we're definitely concerned, and this post really hit me on a day I needed it.
All I can say is well done, staying strong and saying to god no this is not my time I believe is a powerful thing and your brain controls your body so it clearly has a say. Keep going

Agree with Vangogh1961. Statistically I should have been in the ground three years ago. Last week’s PSA still undetectable. A clinical trial has been quite successful so far. However, “faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain”. Keep believing!
As far as medical treatment, my situation changed when I moved my care to the Univ of Pittsburgh Medical Center. My previous caregiver (whom I greatly admired) left his practice. At UPMC I was introduced to the options of clinical trials. First trial used a combination of Xtandi and another medication. It didn’t work. Next trial involved weekly infusions of an immunotherapy drug called Amgen 509. In one month, PSA dropped to undetectable. After a year of this, I acquired a condition called vasculitis. Pain in head and jaw became severe but the doctor figured it out. Treated with steroids and that’s OK now. However, the trial sponsor believed the drug could have caused or contributed to the vasculitis so I was taken off the trial. 14 months after being removed, it appears to still be working. Only treatment I’m receiving is Lupron injections to lower testosterone. Nobody seems to know how long this success will last. It’s a trial. Most important is having faith in God. Good luck if you or a loved one is fighting this disease. Don’t give up!

Very happy to hear such inspiring news about your father. I too had a similar situation june of 2022. Pain, couldn’t walk. Psa 5664 with cancer in lungs, nodes lungs, spine, pelvis and femur neck. I also take curcumin, 2800mg with black pepper extract daily, among other things. So here is my question, does your father suffer all the normal side effects of ADT. My side effects are very minimal with mild heat flashes and virtually no fatigue. I had a dexa scan because my MO felt being on ADT for 18 months would have caused bone density problems but BMD is normal, as are all of my other labs. First of all, all glory to God. My Psa went from 900 in November to 5664 the following May and scans showed two compression fractures. At that rate I figured I had 5 months to live at the most but I responded well to Lupron and after 15 months abiraterone was added. I now hunt, fish and work on my wife’s honey do list. Again, all Glory to God. I asked about the curcumin because it is said to combat every side effect from adt listed except weight gain. Oh well nothing is perfect. God Bless.
It bottomed out at 6 March of 2023 on lupron and climbed to almost 20 in September. I then started taking abiraterone, 250mg with low calorie breakfast, and it dropped to 4.79 in 3 weeks then 2.78, then 1.28 Jan 11 and 1.03 March 7. I am also taking 5mg of prednisone when I take the Abiraterone. I take no calcium for bone health but I do take magnesium for bone and heart health. God bless!
