Update On Dad's Duke visit

Hi everyone,

My dad's appointment was yesterday at Duke. PSA dropped 199 points. It was exciting to see my Dad happy! He has now been on Xtandi 23 days and his PSA is currently 113, also Lupron q 6mo shot and Xgeva 1 injection so far. He is eating an enriched diet in green veggies, lean meats, whole wheat, fruits, nuts and lots of green tea, vitamins and supplements. He has also started drinking Ningxia Red (young living). Have you heard of it? It gives him energy and he only has to drink 2 oz. 2x a day.

I pray Dad will get long lasting good results with the Xtandi. Also, I wanted to share that the fatigue from the Xtandi was pretty bad, but now since he switched to taking it at night he is doing much better:) He also gained 1 lb and is now at 159 pounds at 5'11". Xtandi and Xgeva has been the only other tx besides ADT. Next appt is in 4 weeks for more labs and 8 weeks for scans.

I wish you all the very best with your treatments and know I am praying for this group. Thank you for all the support and the information that you share.

Much love, Kimberly

Kimberly,

That is great news...keep doing what you are doing,. If you can--Get Dad walking for exercise...some light weights to maintain bone strength if he is able.... You are doing a great job with him....He is a lucky father, and you are a good daughter.... Keep us posted... May his PSA continue to fall...

WooHoo!!

Glad to hear the Xtandi seems to be working. Visit him often, and keep him moving. It could be several months before his PSA reaches a low point, and, hopefully, many more months of relative stability afterwards. This time of relative stability and fewer constraints can be a very precious Opportunity for all involved. Live Well. Big Hugs all around!

Hi Kimberley! I was very touched by your update and how you are supporting your dad. Family support is a huge factor in our fight against PC.

I would like to share 2 things with you. Firstly, I have been battling since 2012 and when my prostatectomy and radiation did not work (meaning PSA started to rise) I was informed by my urologist/oncologist/surgeon that there are many drugs that can keep the cancer in check and more will be available in 5 years. Soon after me sharing this with my family, my daughter, who was in her 2nd year at university started a charity and called it Zee5. My nickname is Zee (as my name starts with the letter Z) and the 5 represents the 5 year window that new drugs will be available. She started the charity to raise money for Prostate Cancer to help assure the drugs will be available in 5 years. She had "Kegger" parties at university and organized a hair cutting fund raising event with the school Football team. Shortly afterwards, my wife's real estate company organized a huge gala in honor of Zee5 and all proceeds went to Prostate Cancer. We had 3 such events and my daughter was a huge part of the gala and the guest speaker. Overall, Zee 5 has donated close to $90,000 to help fight prostate cancer.

By no means am I suggesting you do something similar, but my point is that my daughter, son, and wife are my "carrots" (inspiration) to keep fighting, as I am sure you are your dad's "carrot". Keep it up!

My second point is regarding your dad's energy level. I have now hit the castrate resistant stage and on Lupron and Zytiga. This combination makes me super tired. I hit a wall in the afternoon and typically need a nap, which I never used to. I would have to go the gym in the morning as I had no energy in the afternoon. I am 56 years old and still very active - go to the gym 4 to 5 times a week, ski, water ski, and play a lot of hockey. However, my energy level has definitely reduced my activity level till very recently. My son's girlfriend, who is a very healthy eater, suggested I try juicing celery. After doing some research I bought a very good juicer and started juicing - celery, beets, carrots, apple, lemon. Soon after I started, I noticed a huge increase in energy. No need for naps and can go to the gym in the afternoon. There are also many "medical" benefits to juicing and it may help the cancer situation as well. This could your dad as well.

Sorry for the long reply, but thought I had to share my 2 thoughts with you.

Best of luck to your dad - I hope there are many more good days than bad days.

Keep being the "Carrot"!

Cheers,

Zoran

How amazing is your family Zoran?! Wow, that is so wonderful that your daughter has done this amazing charity in honor of her Dad:) . It will benefit many men fighting this disease. It's wonderful that you have this great family and support system.

I think juicing is a great idea! We will start doing that too:) . Best wishes to you and your family and may your daughter keep up the good work with Zee5! May God bless you and yours!
