Just an update on my Dad. My 90 year old father has been fighting APC since 2015. Beginning with brain mets and then adrenal mets. No bone mets. Apparently very rare. He had a brain tumour removed and radiation to 3 smaller ones in 2016 followed by Chemo. All SOC until Zytiga failed. He was very fortunate to be accepted for treatment at Peter Mac here in Melbourne Australia by Professor Michael Hofman due to Dads PSMA PET and FDG scans showing he would be a good candidate for Lu177. Dad had 2 treatments 6 weeks apart. His recent PSMA Pet scan has shown that the new met in Dads brain has resolved and the mets on both adrenals have resolved. His PSA is undetectable.
So far Dad has had a remarkable result. His MO said he would not have coped with Chemo. He coped very well with the Lutetium. No side effects apart from a dry mouth but that has resolved. He has had only two treatments. If his PSA rises they will give him another treatment. I have been reluctant to post Dad's amazing result due to the fact every Prostate Cancer is different and recently Great John's Lu177 failure. I miss John and Patrick Turner even though I never met either of them. I looked for their posts. Their passing deeply saddened me. We were privledged to be able to celebrate Dad's 90th birthday in January. Something we never thought would have been possible when he was first diagnosed in 2015. The care Dad received at Peter Mac in Melbourne and is still receiving has been outstanding. He is still with us. All my love and gratitude to all the warriors and the caregivers here. I read your posts everyday. Kerrie 💓

Thanks for the good news about your father, positive stories are always welcome reading. I’m putting a lot of eggs in the Lutetium basket so for me your Dad’s great response is really encouraging news. My PSA has been doubling about every 3 months since June 2020, starting from a nadir of 0.6 and now is 15.00. Unfortunately the Lutetium option for me is dependent on getting into a trial. And my 2021 CT and bone scans showed no mets, so it’s another lot of scans later this month when my PSA is likely to be around 20.00. Definitely weird to want to find metastases but that’s where I am. Thanks again and I hope your Dad’s good fortune continues.
Thank you so much. 😊Dad's cancer had enough PSMA receptors to warrant the Lutetium treatment. The PSMA pet scan is very important. There is an upcoming event in Melbourne next month. Alot of great minds will be discussing PSMA Pet. If you are interested I can private message you the link to the consumer session online. Best wishes. K
I would really appreciate receiving the link as well. We hope my husband may be getting into a trial soon.
Also we love hearing of positive results with Lutetium. I know there must be other successes but, as you say, the sad outcomes for our wonderful personalities here, GJohn and Patrick, etc., stick with us. Four years ago there was a member named "daddysdaughter" whose father received Lutetium in Omaha and died shortly afterward. Looking back, his death was not from the treatment but rather a comorbidity. It was also heartbreaking. I have been reading all the related old posts I can.
Thank you so much. What a lovely photo of you two.💓I will send you the link. You are an inspiration as a loving wife and caregiver. I have read your bio and it certainly has been a difficult journey. But the fight continues. We will keep on fighting until our loved ones tell us they have had enough. My dear father can be grumpy sometimes too. 😉🌺
I understand what you're saying, I know a guy dying from prostate cancer too, but focus solely on yourself (if you're the caregiver) and your dad. The bad things that can happen to others is irrelevant. Everyone appreciates the empathy though.
I know why..... with all the kangaroo meat you Aussies eat you're bound to bounce back from anything.... Congrats at 90 DAD, now let us see you bounce to triple digits.....
Thank you John.💓 You always brighten my day with your posts.🤣 I haven't tried Kangaroo Meat but I might when we travel to Darwin in August. Best wishes to you. 😊
I’m so glad you did post this. I needed to read this today as I drown in worry about my 70 year old father with PCa. We need to hear the good stories too, it keeps hope going. So happy to hear this has been your experience.
Thank you for your kind response. I know exactly how you feel. Almost 7 years ago our reaction was total shock. Brain metastases that were Prostate Cancer. Such a feeling of panic. Our family was so fearful. Dad was the healthy one. Our rock. I know exactly how you are feeling. If your Dad has a great Prostate Cancer specialist he will guide you through the journey. The support and all the great minds here in this group... outstanding!!!!. I spend so much time with Dad now as I take him to all his appointments. Time I cherish. You sound like you are a loving daughter and want the best for your Dad. He is lucky to have you.💓
Yes you sound so much like me! I cut back at work to be around more and to go to all my dads appointments. And my dad is the healthy one too lol. I love this forum for so many reasons. I think the variety of outcomes is terrifying but hopeful at the same time.
Anymore updates on your Dad? If you have posted them and I missed, sorry! Had my first LU177 treatment, as part of the Eclipse trial, and waiting for results.
