I am 51 and my periods won´t stop. I have been on HRT for the past seven years - first Oestrogel (Besins Healthcare) + Utrogestan (two pumps of Oestrogel for 25 days a month, Utrogestan 200 mg for ten days a month). Then, when I turned 50, my doctor suggested using HRT daily. Since Oestrogel was out of stock with all suppliers at the time, I was switched to Lenzetto (two sprays daily) along with 100 mg of Utrogestan. The doctor thought this might stop my periods that I was desperate to get rid of.
However, they have continued with no sign of stopping. My latest FSH levels came back at 29, with >30 being indicative of post-menopause. LH levels already indicative of post-menopause. My estradiol and progesterone levels are low in range on continuous HRT.
My doctor has now suggested I go off Lenzetto + Utrogestan and start taking Cerazette instead. The doctor believes this will stop periods. It can be used until age 55, at which time I can be sure to have no more periods.
I am a bit hesitant as I have always believed bio-identical hormones is the way to go...I know Cerazette only contains progesterone and seems to have fewer side effects than contraceptive pills containing estrogen, but it does feel a bit strange to go on the pill at my age...also, since my FSH and LH levels are indicative of post-menopause, I would think I am no longer ovulating, at least not regularly, so not sure if Cerazette will be helpful in my situation since it prevents ovulation...?
Any input would be most welcome!
