Hello and welcome to a brilliant, friendly and supportive site! I can only give advice from my own point of view, which is obviously not necessarily correct.

I lost 2 stone using low carb high fat (lchf) there a forum on here for it. It works on the fact that carbs are sugar, so when you don't eat them, your blood sugars are level and you don't get cravings. It's worked for me anyway.

Hi Monash,

Where do I go for that diet?

More information please.

Thanks

It's possible nobody has ever mentioned this to you, but diabetes 2 is usually reversible with an appropriate diet, if not actually "curable", especially if you've only need recently diagnosed. The food is tasty, you don't have to count things or eat small, boring meals, and if you're carrying excess weight it will disappear without much effort on your part. Many of us eat this way simply because it's inherently healthy - it carries a much-reduced risk of developing T2D, for a start!

I joined this forum just before Christmas - can't speak highly enough of the LCHF way of eating. I am doing a lot of research on this and the more I read, the more I am convinced that the current 'healthy eating guidelines' are a load of poo! Good luck

Hi, Dancingshoes58 , welcome.

Are you a dancing girl?

My late wife had a ballet, tap and gymnastics school - I helped with the gymnastics.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works, for weight loss and diabetes, is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Thanks S11m, I am a dancing matured lady and none of the above mentioned. I do zumba and some African dancing at the gym. Thanks

Don't buy snacks. If it's not in the house you can't eat it. Simples ;-)

Make sure you're eating a satisfying dinner.

The other thing I've found that helps is brushing my teeth earlier into the evening/night (after dinner of course). No one wants to eat right after they've brushed their teeth, haha.

Thanks for your advice. I do brush my teeth and after an hour or two, I find myself going for anything I can reach because I can't sleep.

I go to the gym and have lost a lot of weight on my own. I need help with loosing the last two stones, that will not shift. I get frustrated and snack.😟

Hello, Dancingshoes58, and welcome :)

With diabetes, it's not just about losing weight but about changing what you eat. The 12 week plan, or any calorie counting plan, would not be right for you, but there is an alternative, as Nomash has mentioned - reducing carbohydrates and introducing some healthy fats. It's a way of eating that is enjoyable and satisfying so I hope you'll give it a go :)

Here's some reading for you - rather a lot but there's no rush

dietdoctor.com/wp-content/u...

phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

dietdoctor.com/low-carb/sugar

You'll also get useful information from diabetes.co.uk and the Low Carb High Fat forum healthunlocked.com/lchf-diet

To make the most of this forum, I suggest joining a weekly weigh in on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary to log your meal plans. You'll find many members follow the LCHF approach. You'll find them, and everything you need to know about the forum, in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Best wishes in turning things around, as many, many people have :)

Thank you BridgeGirl,

My diabetes is very controlled and I have lost almost 8 stones on my own. Even though it took me 5 years, from a size 28 to 18 now. I just want to get rid of the last two stones and that's the problem. I get frustrated and snack at night because of lack of sleep. I reslly don't want to go back to my old ways. I joined this for support.

Thanks for the information

Wow, well done you! You'll know all about controlling your carbohydrates, then :)

I would say that if you're snacking at night it either comes down to a) needing to boost your meals with a little more healthy fat so it's not caused by hunger or b) a habit that you need to break by finding some sort of distraction in the evening or having a "Kitchen closed after 7/8 pm" sign - or any combination of the above

Woweeee!! That's fantastic. I found this summary in an article I was reading earlier - stick to the real foods and throw the fake foods out the window.

Here are some common examples of real foods:

1. Fats & Proteins. Eggs, sardines, mackerel, salmon, beef, chicken (with skin), lamb, pork (with fat), liver, kidney, heart, avocados, olives, full-fat cheese, full-fat yoghurt, cream, almonds, macadamia nuts, brazil nuts, walnuts. 2. Carbohydrates. Broccoli, spinach, green beans, bell peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, cauliflower, courgettes, onions. 3. Drinks. Water, tea, herbal tea, fruit tea, coffee, full-fat milk, full-fat cream. 4. Oils. Beef tallow, butter, coconut oil, ghee, goose fat, lard and cold-pressed olive oil.

Here are some common examples of fake foods:

1. Fats & Proteins. Low-fat cheeses, low-fat yoghurt, low-fat spreads, beans in sauce, flavoured nuts, canned whipped cream. 2. Carbohydrates. Sugary cereals, refined breads, refined pastas, crisps, biscuits, cakes, dried fruit. 3. Drinks. Sugary soft drinks, fruit juices, low-fat milk, sugary milkshakes, prepackaged smoothies. 4. Oils. Sunflower oil, corn oil, vegetable oil, soya oil and rapeseed oil.

Good luck :)

Hi Dancingshoes58. I’m here for the same reason, recently diagnosed type 2 who needs to lose weight. Hopefully we can do it together. Have you been to see a dietician?
