Hi everyone hope you are all well. I originally started my weight loss journey at 26 stone. I'm now at 18 and cant seem to shift anymore weight no matter what I try. I'm looking to drop another 3 stone to be able to have an operation to untwist my tubes and I can try to become a mum. Time is running out as I'm 35 so any help.and advise would be great x

Hi Amy. Welcome to the forum. You will get an official welcome post from TeamAdmin.

Weight loss occurs by calorie deficit. Mainly by eating less/differently. Other way is to burn more. The latter has generally less impact on weight loss though sport has benefits on other fields.

Your health care professionals can give you some literature / advice on how to approach weight management in your case.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far. You will find a lot of support on this forum. I would also like to invite you to a weight in group, actually, if Sunday is convenient, then to our Sunday Slimmers team 😉.

Thank you. Health care professionals already have referred me to a dietian and put me on orlistat.

Oooo the group sounds great x

Great if you like the idea of the weigh in group 😀

The post will open at 9pm Saturday (suppose you have GMT) for 24 hours. Check Super Sunday Slimmers weigh in the Pinned Posts, during this period.

Nice that you will have a dietitian following you up.

If you have any question we can help with, feel free to ask. Our reply is not to replace the health care professionals ‘s advice, this forum is peer to peer support.

If you see other members where you can give your support, I am sure they will be happy, too. 😀

See you soon.

Hi Amy, I’ve been prescribed Orlistat twice during my lifetime. I couldn’t deal with the explosive side effect of removing fat from digestive system, so ended up avoiding eating fats, which made the Orlistat redundant. I’m much happier now with my weight loss from LCHF, getting rid of sugar, cutting out bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and going back to eating fats again, cream, cheese, butter. I handed my Orlistat tablets back to my GP and he was astounded when I told him how I’d lost the weight.

Oh, is stones related to GMT?

Hey Amy,

I was just admiring your before and after photos. It drives me crazy that success isn't enough to reach your goals.

If you haven't tried LCHF or intermittent fasting, I think you should look into that. I hesitate to suggest anything to you, because it's obvious you know much more about weightloss than I do, but if you need to mix things up ,that might be the way to go.

Hello Amywhitt

Welcome to the Weight Loss Forum, I see you’ve already had some lovely replies 😊

If you haven’t already then please read the Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully so you can find all the information you need to find your way around.

As a peer to peer support group we rely on mutual encouragement, and beats joining in, reading posts and replying to others. Our group Weigh-in and the Daily Diary are probably the best places to start.

Best wishes in your weight loss journey

Indigo 😊

It is very likely that the members are from the UK. But some live abroad, hence I emphasized on the GMT.

Elisabeth gave a friendly and helpful reply to the poster. How was it friendly or helpful of you to pick up on her specifying that the forum follows UK time? I often do. I hope you won’t be picking me up about it.

Hello Amy, it sounds as if you have done really well to lose 8stone already, that's amazing! And you have a great goal to work towards. As Elisabeth3 has said to you joining a Weigh In team on a regular day is a big help to get to know others on here and share ideas. That sharing of ideas in itself can sometimes feel confusing but take your time , look at info given or links that may be shared etc and you'll be able to chose a way forward for you but dont forget to check with your medical advice. I think your Orlistat helps you avoid gaining further weight but not lose weight, is that what you have been told?

All best for now and see you around on the Forum

Personally I keep my scales to kg to avoid confrontation with reality 😊

Happy to record milestones in stones - sounds more impressive 😉

Besides, back in the day we learned phrases like „Un livre des pommes“ nothing about half a kilo.

Wow that's amazing, to lose 8 stone is fantastic! As you get nearer your goal it gets harder. I don't have much to lose but I am trying the low carb diet which appears to be working.....slowly, as I am no angel!! . I still calorie count as 1400 seems to be my limit to achieve a loss. The health professionals will applaud your weight loss and determination. There advice is there to keep you and your future baby safe and healthy. Adopting a healthy life style is so important and this journey is a wake up call in valuing yourself and your body. I too had fertility challenges and in the end adopted my daughter. I now have a beautiful grandson too. Keep going, your determination will win in the end, best wishes and big hug. X

Subtle_badger, I realise that you are trying to be helpful, but unfortunately in print, that comment comes across as unnecessary and less than subtle, in fact quite blunt. Besides, she may “know” GMT, but being pedantic, Elisabeth3 said “have” GMT. A Brit living abroad may need to convert timing. One lady who lives in Spain and posts regularly in LCHF forum definitely discusses her weight loss in stones.

I’m not sure I understand - some comments have been deleted (did that just happen in the last few minutes?). Anyway the comment I was replying to is still visible “She's using "stones", she knows GMT.”

Hi Amywhitt , welcome.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Newbies IF FAQ:

That's a brilliant loss so far and you've certainly got a great reason to continue a great goal. Maybe you need to try different foods we tend to stick to certain foods and get in a rut. Also consider a change of plan maybe LCHF BUT you'd have to ditch the orlistat so maybe check with your Dr first. I was given orlistat about 10 years ago but couldn't cope with the smelly stools so ditched it. And even though did ditch the fat still had problems with stomach and didn't loose anything. Good luck and joining in a weigh day will get you loads of support. Hopefully the dietician will help too hope you don't have too long to wait to see them
