Advice on latest bloods

Hi

i would really appreciate some advice on my latest bloods, and whether I should supplement B12 and folate and maybe iron based on them. Bloods taken as per protocol recommended on here.

Currently taking 75 mcg thyroxine and 2 x half grains of ERFA

T4 - 17.4 (range 12-22)

T3 - 4 (range 3.1-6.8)

TSH - 0.01 (as expected because of ERFA)

Iron - 15.4 (range 5.8-34.5)

Ferritin 41 (range 13-150)

Transferrin saturation - 26%

UIBC - 44.4 (24.2-70.1)

TIBC - 60 (41-77)

Active B12 - 84 (37.5-150)

Folate - 20.5 (8.83-45)

Up until recently my iron results have been odd as per previous posts due to high transferrin saturation but this seems to have finally normalised and I suspect it’s somehow connected to low calcium which is also now in range. I am also 6 weeks post surgery (not thyroid related) so maybe this has helped with normalising transferrin saturation but it was already better prior to the op).

Yes, increased calcium is known to inhibit iron absorption. Also zinc which is crucial for good thyroid hormone function.

Your active Vit B12 is only 41% through range. This binds to transcobalamin protein (known as Holotranscobalamin) & made immediately available to cells for use in the body. Your folate is 32% through range and must be kept in line with Vit B12. I would supplement both in methyl-form.

Both ferritin & TSH are known to be influenced by surgery. Are you supplementing selenium to encourage better T4 - T3 conversion?

How far through range should I aim to get folate and B12?

My ferritin has actually increased post surgery but my iron has gone down. I might research that a bit.

No, I don’t take selenium. Is there one you recommend?
