Hello everyone. Thank you all for the time you take and useful information you give. I have been learning a lot from reading your posts. Could I ask for help with interpreting my results please. SInce December last year I have had severe hip pain still under investigation . I have not posted the 3 FBC results as not sure if relevant. Since the 15/6/21 test I have started supplementing with the Vitamin D3 & K2 mouth spray, Vitamin B complex and magnesium and I would appreciate any further advice. Thank you and sorry for the lengthy post

Edited to add I was diagnosed with under active thyroid about 15 years’ ago and currently on 125 mcg Levo. I recently changed to Boots pharmacy to escape the dreaded Teva. I now have 100 mcg Accord and 25 mcg Mercury.

Thank you for your reply Hidden . I take my Levo as soon as I wake and Magnesium after my evening meal so well spaced. I am going to request a GP appointment to discuss the T3 conversion situation and want to have as much information as possible to counter the expected patronising brush off. I will give Paul Robinson’s book a read beforehand. I have recently been tested for inflammatory markers and nothing was out of range. Still the hip pain remains but has eased off in recent weeks. My Orthopaedics consultant wants me to have a steroid injection even though my X-ray and MRI showed only slight wear and tear and nothing that what would have caused the severe pain I had for 3 months and continues to a lesser degree to this day. As well as the magnesium I am supplementing with B complex and Vit D3 and K2 Mk7 and take a turmeric and black pepper supplement to, hopefully. ease my joint pain. All at least 4 hours after Levo. Thank you again for your reply.
Hi the conversion issue from t4 to t3 can be identified by dio 2 gene test usually done in Luxembourg where I did they posted a bottle and I sent them back , the result was I have both the gene defect from both of my parents. When my endo saw this at guy’s hospital he gave me an option to try t3 and then I never looked back .
The accepted conversion ratio when on T4 - Levothyroxine only is 1 / 3.50 - 4.50 T3/T4 with most people feeling at their best at around 4 or under.
To find your conversion ratio you simply divide your T3 into your T4 result and I'm getting 7.62 - ( from 15th June retest of a T3 = 3.2 / T4 = 24. 4 ) - please check this yourself.
T4 - Levothyroxine needs to be converted by your body into T3 the active hormone that runs the body and your conversion of T4 can be compromised by several factors.
Apart from the obvious vitamins and minerals you are dealing with serious pain, and conversion can also be reduced by any physiological stress - emotional or physical, inflammation, depression, dieting and ageing.
I notice your ferritin has risen as has your inflammation marker and both these could be related to your current hip pain issue and think you need to be checked out by a doctor.
On Medichecks current ranges I aim for my ferritin to be at around 100, folate around 20, B12 active 70+ and vitamin D around 100 :
Can I just ask, before the onset of your hip pain, were you well on your thyroid hormone replacement and this down hill spiral has only started since the hip pain in around December 2020 ?
Hello pennyannie thank you for your reply. I have not felt really well for about 8 years. My symptoms are mainly fatigue, hair loss, disrupted sleep, weight loss stalls, dry eyes and dry, flaky skin - I realise that these things could also be due to post menopause [I had a premature menopause age 39 so have been in the post-M stage for many years. I'm now 63 and had a hysterectomy 10 years' ago]. I am not stressed or depressed but have been dieting for the last couple of years. I lost 6 stone but hit a long stall and have now regained 2 stone. I was diagnosed with mild arthritis about 12 years' ago. My GP said it is probably psoriatic arthritis but I was never tested for it. I'm not sure if it is relevant but my psoriasis was never severe and I have not had a flare up for about 18 years now save for the odd small patch now and again. I got on well with just a twinge of hip pain now and again with no real pain or loss of mobility until December when out of the blue I woke up with terrible pain. I had to hop around as I couldn't put any weight on my leg and the pain also was in my knee joint and muscles. X-ray and MRI revealed nothing much wrong and nothing that would cause such pain. Despite this my Orthopaedic surgeon suggested I have a steroid injection. I had this for 3 months and was taking amytriptyline then codine but nothing worked until I added ibuprofen which gave some relief. The pain gradually eased and now just have dull ache in my hip joint. I am completely off pain relief but not able to restart exercise. As well as my T3 issue [I agree with your calc} I am quite concerned about my ferritin more than doubling since January. I am addressing the low Vit D with a supplement and will test again after a few weeks. I am just trying to optimise my health heading into my older age and think that getting my thyroid medication optimal is the first step. Sorry about the long post and thank you so much for your comments,
