Hi, I last posted on here a couple of months ago. I have an under active thyroid which was discovered before starting my first round of IVF in Jan 2020. My TSH has always been under 2 before the start of IVF but my TSH level always seems go low to during IVF treatment and my TSH was 9 just after my last embryo transfer in November. This also happened in July during treatment and my TSH was low. I have had two rounds of failed IVF and I believe this may be the cause. I seem to get top grade embryos but none of them have implanted so far. The last time I posted on here I was given some good advice and was told to have my vitamin levels and antibodies checked.

I have have seen a private Endo (which was a waste of time) he said that there is nothing that can be done to reduce the inflammation that I seem to have during IVF. I also mentioned T3 but he said it is not recommended in people who are TTC. My dose of Levo was changed from 75mcg to 87.5 mcg 6 weeks ago by the Endo. I have also seen an NHS Endo who at least agreed to monitor the inflammation by checking my bloods before IVF and before embryo transfer (something that my fertility clinic doesn’t do!!). I have also been gluten free for 3 months

I have no symptoms at the minute apart from a bit of hairloss when I wash my hair and I feel great, probably because all the vitamins I’m taking. Last symptoms were last August (2020)brain fog, anxious, hair loss and not sleeping.

All bloods taken first thing in the morning before Levo

Bloods December 2020

TSH- 0.34

Free T3-4.44

Free Thyroxine- 20.9

Thyroglobulin Antibodies- 142

Thyroid Peroxidase- 184

Vitamin B12- 489 (170-730)

Ferritin Serum -106 (13-150)

Folate Serum- <20.0 (3.9-26.8)

Vitamin D- 46 (50-250)

I was prescribed Vit D 20000 for six weeks as maintenance dose. I had my bloods checked again and my Vit D level was 91. I was then prescribed D3 Caps 800iu from my GP which I am currently taking now. I spoke to both Endo’s and my GP about increasing the dose but all said the 800iu is enough to bring my levels up. My recent bloods (see below) shows that my Vit D level has dropped from 90 to 72. Advise needed on what dose I would need to increase levels? I also spoke to my fertility consultant last week and mentioned my worries about my Vit D levels and he casually said that my Vit D had been 19 prior to starting IVF last year, I’m not happy that this wasn’t mentioned at the time as I probably would’ve delayed treatment until it was sorted!!

Current vitamins

Vit B12 spray 1200ug

D3 800iu

COQ10 (for egg quality)

Prenatal

DHEA 3 x 25 mg daily. Also had my DHEA levels tested and the results came back high -14.3 (1.65-9.15) any advice on this? I have also contacted my fertility clinic

Please see new updated bloods and vitamin levels. The antibodies are still high but have gone the opposite way from last time?? I can see my vitamin levels have improved but I wanted my antibodies to be in range before my next IVF in April. Sorry for the long post.

800iu is clearly not high enough dose vitamin D ....if result is now 72 having been at 90

Many/most Hashimoto’s patients need higher dose vitamin D than average

Suggest you increase vitamin D to 3000iu and retest in 2-3 months

Test twice yearly via NHS test options

Hi Natty, i to have under active thyroid and have been having my results looked at. There is an article here for DHEA naturalendocrinesolutions.c...

Maybe you are taking too much? I have considered taking due to low egg reserve.

The IVF meds do affect the thyroid i've been told and IF you get positive test you need to get checked and dosage altered.

Your results seem good. My TSH is now 2.94 and i'm looking at a slight increase to my dose and having another check done. I also done medichecks and was shocked that my Thyroglobulin Antibodies were 220! was told that long as taking meds for thyroid this is showing your condition. I'm also convinced that this could be affecting implantation..had 3 cycles where either egg isn't good or implantation failure has occurred.

Been told that T4 and TSH are important and not much will be changed for autoimmunity but i'm still looking into this.

Sorry not many answers here but wanted you to know you not alone in the search x

Thanks for your reply. The main thing I wanted was someone to review my bloods ..I’ve posted in the past and had some good advice, but never mind I’ll figure it out myself.I have spoken to my fertility consultant and been advised to reduce DHEA to one capsule a day instead of three. I’ve convinced myself that my thyroid antibodies are the cause. I’ve made changes with my diet and taking a lot of supplements so I’m hoping that will make a difference. Good luck with IVF journey it’s a tough one.
