T4, in Estrogen dominance

Hi everyone ♥️

Here's my latest saga on my thyroid medication journey 😢 first I have no thyroid, second I have a new condition hyperparathyroidism, third I have a new endocrinologist. He has looked closely at my thyroid blood tests and has said he wants me to ween of T3 he has put me on T4 at 125mg,im on my 4th dose with 20mg of T3 split in to 10mg, so that's 125mg T4- 20mg T3 per day T3 will be slowly decrease until dose is finished. 6-8 weeks re-test of bloods, as my new endo noted my T3 has not moved but my T4 is 1.8..ranges...11.00..22.00) as I feel no better health wise I'm willing to try the T4 lactose free,

I'm having no trouble with the lactose free T3 and hope to continue this with the T4

I was very interested to read the affect estrogen can have on your thyroid meds ie, estrogen dominance (I hope I've got the right one, apparently estrogen can decrease thyroid medication absorption, excess estrogen causes the liver to produce more TBG( thyroid binding globulin) T3, T4 can get bound up utilising less T3, T4) over productivity of estrogen can mimic thyroid hormone thus blocking receptors for thyroid hormones, so thyroid meds cant get in to the cells slowing down the production of T3, T4 making them less effective. My FSH was checked in 2015 being as follows

FSH.. 96.2...sorry no range in the letter..

LH.. 45.7...no range

Oestradio.. <44

I don't know my level of estrogen or progesterone at this time, I had a total hysterectomy in 2003 so started going through the menupause in my 40s.. In the last year or so I've noticed hairs growing on my chin I've to shave them off they are annoying when applying makeup, obviously this is hormonal... Wonder if it's estrogen dominance???

Also I would mention my cortisol level was 178..from a blood test my new endo requested he goes on to say.. Your cortisol level is in the grey zone at 178 this was a 9am test, this will require some further investigation with a series of blood tests following an injection (short synacthen test) I'm greatful to the new endo he is doing much more than my gp has ever done in the Las number of years 😠 does anyone on here know about estrogen dominance???

Many thanks if you read this.. ♥️

Hope everyone ls OK.. ♥️♥️♥️

You have no thyroid and had hysterectomy, do you take estrogen?

You and I are exactly the same as far as No thyroid and hysterectomy and in my opinion T3 is important for thyroid-less people to feel decent.... T4 only meds made me a mental disaster when T3 was added I felt so much better no more rage ... Why can’t you lower your T3 and add in T4 ? As far as Estrogen (I'm on hrt) I do take it hours away from my meds and as far as I have read you should up your dose of thyroid meds if taking estrogen (I haven’t) and Endos really don’t care at least mine when I question this!

Hi Batty1

Thanks for the reply ❤️

I can't take HRT I was taken off the contraceptive pill because I had a large clot on my retina which blinded me for a time now I have bad sight in that eye, consultant said I could not go back on the pill or take hormone replacement 😭 I've taken 5days of 125gm T4 and 20mg T3 split in to 10mg..ive woke up this morning with hyper symptoms shaking nodding head sweated all night I'm totally exhausted couldn't even go to my surgery to hand in my urine samples 😭 I'm in bed AGAIN... I feel so unwell no energy ect... But I'm thinking the lack of energy could also be that my level of cortisol is low.. Having a test for this soon I hope... 🤞

Ok that makes sense ...

Hi there, I am on T3 and 5 years on hrt, my gp or any other gp I've seen couldn't care less about even mentioning about the fact estrogen/hrt increases thyroglobulin and perhaps I should up my t3 dose. However I take it at midnight and it's a Estradiol gel of sandrena gel and a vaginal soft capsule of progesterone , utrogestan.

Good job we know the score ourselves. I just get my stuff and stay well away from them because I felt worse for any interference anyway. 🙄

Take care all 😊

If HRT raises thyroglobulin I must a medical anomaly my levels never raise.

in reply toBatty1

Estrogen has a indirect effect on thyroid increasing the thyroxine binding globulin and the need for thyroid hormone in hypothyroid women 😊

Ok still hrt does absolutely nothing to any of my levels.

in reply toBatty1

Good, I am ok too, I take mine at night as a transdermal gel straight into the blood avoiding the liver.

As you know, progesterone can increase thyroid hormone levels in the blood.

It can be difficult for some to get a balance.

I love my estrogen but I am really sensitive to the progesterone, but I have to have it as I have my womb.

Take care 🙂

Hi, well, I'm not as clever as some of these amazing people on this forum and I know you will get the right advice from them but for me, I am currently weening off thyroxine after attending a new endocrinologist recently as she wanted to know the true "state" of me.

I am Hashimoto and I too have had a full hysterectomy. I also take HRT. Apart from putting a couple of stone on I actually feel ok but would obviously love to lose the weight - at 5'2. it's not funny. I remember getting a few hairs on my chin but that was because I was taking testosterone (to help my flagging libido) but I have now stopped it and hence I am hair free. I am sorry I can't help with "readings", I could never get my head around them and just check they are within limits etc.

I wish you well and hope your other replies are more helpful.

Hi, you know please be very cautious doing that because many years ago I had an endocrinologist say to me I'm taking you off of thyroxine after 10 years at that point , been 20 years hypo now because of hashimotos, anyway I came off of the thyroxine and by day ten I was very ill I had adrenaline gushing out across my middle like hot water jolting me to stay awake as I was going unconscious and freezing cold , but before I was going cold I was boiling hot then freezing. I ended up swollen by about 28 pounds of fluid and in hospital being treated for myxedema coma on a drip of liothyronine. I had barely no Thyroid hormone in me left and yes that stupid twat of an endocrinologist got to know my true state, severely hypothyroid and put me in a worse state telling me he wanted to know my true state. So no I'd never in god's name ever stop my thyroid meds ever. My husband almost throttled him. I don't trust any of them now. Played with my life.

Becareful xx

Thank you Elizajoe, that was some reading. Quite horrific really and so pleased that you are recovered and hopefully correctly medicated. It's knowing who to trust and whether they really know what there doing. I was taking HRT but was given hormones to treat a womb which I didn't have; left that doctor behind thank goodness. Unfortunately though I am not in the country for my meds and I have left them behind and cannot restart for atleast six weeks. It's been about ten days since my last medication. I seem to be doing ok, though hearing you mention pains around your mid section was suggestive of some I had a few days ago but they have gone now. I intend to try and speak to the doctor for reassurance really (Wasn't on a high dose really) and if I'm not happy I will find a doctor here in the UK who might be able to help. Thank you for your information and I do wish you well. Take care X
