Synacthen test

I have my short synacthen test tomorrow morning! Please could someone let me know, do I need to fast from my thyroid medications for the test and instead take my thyroid medications after the short synacthen test? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much God bless 🌹🌼🌷🌺

But I started to feel those oh so familiar aches, but didn't want to increase the pred as I wanted to get the synacthen test done. Synacthen test came back at 315 and I'm now awaiting appointments with endo team.

after 4 years on prednisone ( up & down)tapering to 5mg in last 6weeks pains returned.Rheumatologist thinks adrenals not working.Suggests a Synacthen Test? Just wondering if anyone has had this & what was the outcome. Thanks Glynis

I’m to have a synacthen test next week. I am taking 5 mg of prednisolone daily and have been told to stop the pred 3days before the test. Will this be ok. As have been told never to stop steroids suddenly ?

I've had one of these tests today and the nurse said I was very low at producing cortisol. That will explain my knackeredness for 2 months after each 0.5mg taper, (nearly stop technique) and I'm on 3.5mg at the moment. As it will be a while before I see my rheumy I wondered what we're the implications

I posted a few weeks ago about having what I thought was a low Synacthen test of 180. I now have a doctor's letter which tells me it was 130!! They are referring me to an endocrinologist, and he says they may use hydrocortisone conversion. I've never heard of that.

I picked up a couple of pages on this but it is not complete. Does anyone have a complete copy I can download?

If you are on prednisolone once daily, you can have a synacthen test in the morning before your next dose. The prednisolone from 24 hours previously will not be detectable, so the cortisol values will be accurate. https://www.impendo.co.uk › pre...

I am looking for honest advice please. I have had a 9am cortisol test 148nmol/L range (133-537) the results said about different markers as in the picture. The endocrinologist I saw has said it’s fine and when I questioned the test was told I can have if I want it but she doesn’t think I need it. She

Hi, I received a letter from my Rheumatologist saying that my cortisol levels are normal following the Synacthen test 2 weeks ago. It says it is now safe to stop taking steroids. My question is, as i have been on steroids for over 5 years should i just stop or continue reducing.

I have GCA (3.5 yrs) I'm adrenal insufficient and just had my 3rd Synacthen test last week. The results show that adrenals are slowly improving but not where they need to be. Been taking 2.5mg pred for a couple of months.

I've had the short Synacthen test twice now and I'm still adrenal insufficient. If I change the meds will I be in danger of a flare? Has anyone on here done this and how did you feel on the cortisone.

My visit to Brightons Royal Sussex Hospital today has been exhausting but I have come away knowing the outcome of my short synacthen test and having delayed surgery on the pesky pituitary adenoma that was revealed (unexpectedly) by MRI in January.

Whilst waiting for doc appointment, I put myself up to 5mg, I have noticed a big difference, but my question is, is this going to affect my adrenals, which on my last synacthen test 4 weeks ago , results today, my adrenals are normal function.

I have a short synacthen booked via endocrinology NHS.As I use inhaler for COPD, I have been advised not to use it after 4pm the day before. Other than this, everything else, including food, as normal. Does anyone know if this is the only medication I should stop. Thanking you

I had a short synacthen test 3rd July to see if I would be able to come off Prednisolone, but had to immediately reduce from 3.5mg to 3mg for a few days before and then come off it altogether for 2 days.

Looks like it’s a Synacthen test next. Thanks PMRpro for the info on that. Is the experience ok anyone out there who’s had one?

Update on Synacthen test results from 26/4/24. Thought this may be of interest. 9.20 cortisol blood test - 220 (better than cortisol test on 26/3/24 - 131) Post Synacthen test bloods - 362 Below normal (420) but ok. Must stay on 3mg pred.

rheumatologist referred me to endocrinologist as Cortisol levels low He booked me in for a synacthen test. Which I had 3 weeks ago. I havnt got an appointment with him till end of August.

In 2015 my endocrinologist suggested a synacthen test which I believe is the same as a cortisol test (?) but at that time I was taking over 10 mg prednisone, and it was considered not recommended at that dose. Thanks for any thoughts before I talk to my rheumatologist or endocrinologist. ,
