Synacthen test

Is it possible that a short synacthen test could have contributed to my recent flare?

I have been referred to have an urgent short Synacthen test. 18 March 2pm. The endocrine nurse who phoned me to book the appointment wants me to not take my prednisolone on the 18th and the 17th. Said I could take my dose straight after the test.

I have my short synacthen test tomorrow morning! Please could someone let me know, do I need to fast from my thyroid medications for the test and instead take my thyroid medications after the short synacthen test? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much God bless 🌹🌼🌷🌺

Hi, I got the results of my Short Synacthen Test last week. My basal was 30nmol/L and at 30 minutes 209nmol/L (it looks like this was adjusted down from 264). I had only just got to 3mg Prednisolone.

Hello, Is it possible to someone to give an opinion on the results for my short synacthen test please?

I would be really interested to talk to anyone who may have gone down the Synacthen Test route and hear their experience. Also to share my journey with anyone who would like to talk to me.

Shouldn’t be so blaise about it but just had phonecall from Consultant with regards to results of Synacthen test….0-127. 30 160 60 174.Told me to jump to 15 mg straight away ,bloods again on Thursday,and getting in touch with endocrinologist ,steroids for life, but hey ho plenty of people on here in

Am I right in thinking it would be wise to get down to 4mg and then do a Synacthen test to be sure? Ta! Hope everyone is warm and storm free now.

But I started to feel those oh so familiar aches, but didn't want to increase the pred as I wanted to get the synacthen test done. Synacthen test came back at 315 and I'm now awaiting appointments with endo team.

after 4 years on prednisone ( up & down)tapering to 5mg in last 6weeks pains returned.Rheumatologist thinks adrenals not working.Suggests a Synacthen Test? Just wondering if anyone has had this & what was the outcome. Thanks Glynis

Ok so I'm a nervous type normally, but I've just had the short Synacthen injected and my heart rate is rising rapidly. It's 120 sitting down. Is this just me? My nerves? Many thanks for any input 🙏

I’m to have a synacthen test next week. I am taking 5 mg of prednisolone daily and have been told to stop the pred 3days before the test. Will this be ok. As have been told never to stop steroids suddenly ?

He sent me for a short synacthen test. The results were baseline 273 nmol/L, 321 at 30 minutes and 377 at 60 minutes. He has recommended to my GP that I take 4mg of pred for life. I have not had an opportunity to discuss this with him. I am due a face-to-face appointment in six months.

I posted a few weeks ago about having what I thought was a low Synacthen test of 180. I now have a doctor's letter which tells me it was 130!! They are referring me to an endocrinologist, and he says they may use hydrocortisone conversion. I've never heard of that.

I've had one of these tests today and the nurse said I was very low at producing cortisol. That will explain my knackeredness for 2 months after each 0.5mg taper, (nearly stop technique) and I'm on 3.5mg at the moment. As it will be a while before I see my rheumy I wondered what we're the implications

I have GCA (3.5 yrs) I'm adrenal insufficient and just had my 3rd Synacthen test last week. The results show that adrenals are slowly improving but not where they need to be. Been taking 2.5mg pred for a couple of months.

If you are on prednisolone once daily, you can have a synacthen test in the morning before your next dose. The prednisolone from 24 hours previously will not be detectable, so the cortisol values will be accurate. https://www.impendo.co.uk › pre...

She insists I don’t need a Synacthen test now, because if I haven’t displayed any illnesses or discomfort usually associated with and suggesting Adrenal problems, in tapering from 5mg down, then it’s more than likely that they have awoken up fully.

I picked up a couple of pages on this but it is not complete. Does anyone have a complete copy I can download?
