I have Hashimotos. On 100mcg levothyroxine but feel awful on the increase (previously on 75mcg but TSH sneaked up from 0.05 to 3). I am now drinking celery juice every morning as well as taking B12, Vit D, Iron, Selenium and Magnesium with zinc later in the day.
Should I drink my celery juice before or after taking my thyroxine?
Many thanks

Have you been reading the Medical Medium? He's the only one I know that recommends celery juice for Hashi's! lol
Thyroid hormone should be taken on an empty stomach with just water and nothing else for at least an hour. And you should leave at least two hours before taking supplements like B12 and selenium. And four hours before taking vit D, iron, and magnesium.
It is quite incredible that there is an obvious and very significant link between that MM person and celery consumption, at least in the USA. And sales of jucing kit that will work on celery.
Only just seen this - I wasn't notified. It's rediculous, isn't it. I wonder what celery juice tastes like? Not going to try, though, I don't like juice, very much - with the possible exception of orange, pineapple and tomato - but not all at once!
EXTREMELY important to regularly test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
You may need to get full Thyroid testing privately as NHS refuses to test TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
At least one hour before or two hours after levo, same as any other nutrient. Celery does contain some calcium but not really enough to need to leave 4 hours. If you have a lot of inflammation, celery contain several anti-inflamattories so it might help. It's a decent source of folate. It is supposed to be low in sodium so might not be the best choice if you have certain types of adrenal problem which tend to leave you low in sodium - I find that odd as celery tastes incredibly salty to me (but perhaps that's the potassium). It won't affect your thyroid hormones one way or the other (as far as we know) but the fibre in it could affect absorption of levo if you take it too soon before or after your tablet.
For me celery is definitely OFF the food list along with gluten, citrus, nightshades it makes my joints muscle pain, headaches much worse. Lots to unpick here. Could be adrenally you're not able to process the extra dose. Could be T3 is needed. We're all different. I was extremely poorly on 100mcg levo. Look at stop the thyroid madness Janie Bowthorpe and how to keep your thyroid healthy Dr Durrant Peatfield Guy's hospital trained rather than foodie. If you felt better on 75 then drop your dose back down, whilst you work it out. Don't be led by TSH!
