Levothyroxine and pineapple juice ?

Hi just a quick Post I am in bed with the flu 😷 is it ok to drink pineapple juice ? I know grapefruit has conderindactions with some medication wasn't sure about levothyroxine ?? Thanks in advance xxx

I have such a hard time figuring out what I can and cannot mix with my copious meds.

Here is my best advice (works for me) if you're unsure about a med or food (and it's not known to be cross reactive) then just don't have that food or substance for 2 hours after taking Levo, if it's likely reactive space it out by 4 hours then you should be safe. I just make sure not to eat for 2 hours after Levo, not drink anything other than water either (the only thing I drink anyway), and I space out the things I really know cause problems and take those later in the evening.

But I hope someone can give you a more solid answer in this case

Hiya thank you for your reply .. I started drinking the pineapple juice in the evening yesterday and it really helped my coughing must be the brolaim which is a enzyme in pineapple .. just taken my Levo so will wait just in case it interferes ? I know my mother in law was taking her thyroxine with orange juice and I found out from a consultant she shouldn't have been !

Ah yes. That is true about orange juice (and some other drinks too like coffee). Levo really should just be taken with water. But after an hour of taking it it's usually safe to eat or drink most other things. After 4 hours there's no chance (from my understanding) that it will reduce the effectiveness of Levo. I've never heard not to drink pineapple juice!!

I drink it especially in Pina colada when on holiday!!!

If you've got what I had I get dreadful. Wiped me out for first 3 days then felt rough for the rest of the eeek. Even didn't go to work!!!!

If you're feeling that bad, you really ought to stay at home, not only for your own wellbeing and recovery, but also to stop yourself from infecting anyone else with whatever you have got... I'm sure your work colleagues would be far more grateful for you not bringing your germs into the workplace.

I was in bed and on sofa for 3 days. There's no way I could've gone to work.

Still got a sore throats and cough. Had it for 3 weeks!!

You need to keep warm. Lots of fluids and look after yourself xxxx
