hi

Wonder if anyone can please recommend some supplements for the above. Usually take ferrous fumerate with no probs, lswopped to bisglycinate for maintenance, but can't have been effective as ferritin lowered again(after symptoms obreathlessness, feeling faint, heavy periods, etc) after being back on fumerate for a month, had nausea for couple wks, then it felt like mouth ulcers from throat downwards. Dr said it was likely iron ( tho also felt very poorly, weak?) and to try gluconate when better. This wk I've retried bisglycinate-until I get something else, seems ok, but wondering what anyone on here recommends please?

Also, I've tried vit d in past, sublingual drops, but my health worsened, maybe coincidence?, so unsure what to try with that either, no good asking dr, he just gave me adcal before in a low dose.

I asked to try thyroid treatment ( was offered it last yr, but found iodine def. so tried correct that first, but no improvement in daily sublingual drop, over 6 mnths), now dr sys I can't try it until iron improves.

Tsh 3.72. (Has been up to nearly 7 at times)

Ft4 11 (pm sample just before b12 inj. Retested after inj, and was 16?)

B12 1699 and folate 13.1

Think I have combination of issues, paid for MMA test and it says I need more b12, so have just bought high sublinguals to try, other results sugfest candida/gut issues need sorting. Now ordering unpast. Saukraute to help stomach! Im upping salt and vit c, as am exhausted and anxious.

Any ideas gratefully received please as I don't really know what to try first!

(I also take magnesium oil, b6, b2, zinc, selenium, flaxseed oil)

Sorry your post was missed. This is extremely busy forum

Heavy periods are classic sign of being hypothyroid

Vitamin D

GP should prescribe 1600iu daily for 6 months

Local CCG guidelines

clinox.info/clinical-suppor...

GP will only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol. But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol may be better

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/218...

vitamindsociety.org/pdf/Vit...

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with hashimoto’s we frequently need higher dose than average

Government recommends everyone supplement October to April

If vitamin D is low, B vitamins may be too. As explained by Dr Gominack

You need thyroid antibodies tested

Hi SlowDragon

Thanks so much for taking the time to look back and answer this, much appreciated.

I thought my question was maybe a bit long winded!😀 So I reposted the vit d ask and had some other great advice, so got started in some vit d and k2, but few days after starting got temperature/ sinusitis/ inner ear infections and my stomach sore again.

Back on strong antibiotics which I've been trying to avoid, but had to give in. So I've stopped supplements again apart from vit c, and will reintroduce once my stomach settles again.

I did hope to get sprays or drops, but there always seemed to be an ingredient I can't have, so had to go for soft gels.

I'm feeling very stuck with it all at mo, just been so exhausted since before Cmas. Takes until mid afternoon to feel a bit more human! Just getting dressed seems a mammoth expedition!

I've asked 2 Drs recently about trying thyroid medication, as I'm wondering if that's why I'm worse in morning, but have been advised to get iron up first. Now with another infection, have had to stop it again, so all a bit frustrating. I've upped salt & vit c in case it's adrenal linked.

I've been googling probiotics so may put a quick post on about them, as I think I definitely need something to help stomach issues...

Thank you so much for all of your links. I shall work my way through them, that's really helpful.

Have you tried vitamin D mouth spray by Better you

It avoids poor gut function of hashimoto’s. Usually well tolerated

Highly likely with varying atSH results that you have hashimoto’s confirmed by testing thyroid antibodies

Hashimoto's frequently affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels

Low vitamin levels affect Thyroid hormone working

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten intolerance. Second most common is lactose intolerance

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find strictly gluten free diet reduces symptoms, sometimes significantly. Either due to gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies

While still eating high gluten diet ask GP for coeliac blood test first or buy test online for under £20, just to rule it out first

Assuming test is negative you can immediately go on strictly gluten free diet

(If test is positive you will need to remain on high gluten diet until endoscopy, maximum 6 weeks wait officially)

Trying strictly gluten free diet for 3-6 months

If no noticeable improvement, reintroduce gluten and see if symptoms get worse

Hey jo, sorry you are feeling unwell. Chicken liver is good to improve your iron but it’s not a fast process.

I was desperate to get my iron up last year so went to the iron clinic in London for an infusion. Very pricey but I ticked it off the list and I figured life’s too short. In and out in an hour and a simple process. It’s just an idea.

Good luck with your health. X
