Do you have test results for Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin? No good supplementing if you dont need to, or taking too low/high a dose.

You can't supplement willy nilly, you need to know where low levels or deficiencies are and supplement them accordingly. Get test results and make a new post, include reference ranges, and we can see what you need and suggest brands and doses.

Useful supplements for any Hypo patient are

Vit C - 2000mg daily in divided doses, more to bowel tolerance if necessary. If you can tolerate ascorbic acid it's cheap, go for the L-ascorbic acid form, powder is good as it avoids unnecessary ingredients such as excipients and fillers.

B Complex is a good thyroid/adrenal support.

Selenium L-selenomethionine is helpful for T4 to T3 conversion although some people do like to test first.

The others are right - we need to know if we actually need them.

B12 and Vitamin D are pro-hormones and have essential work in our bodies. B12 for instance - if low - the doctor has to make sure the patient doesn't have Pernicious Anaemia but many doctors don't do this test. Taking B12 supplements would mask this. Vit D also has essential work in the body plus all the other vitamins/minerals.

The GP should test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate - all have to be optimum. Supplementing with B12 always has to be B12 methylcobalamin sublingual (most in the shops/pharmacist are cynocobalamin). I order mine, if required, through the Amazon Affiliate link and Thyroiduk.org.uk a gets a very small commission which helps to defray their office expenses.

Wadhamk,

You should have ferritin, vitD, B12 and folate tested before supplementing. It's okay to supplement selenium and vitC without testing.

I've always bought supplements from Amazon. If you buy on Amazon please use the affiliate link healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
