Some of my blood results in, still waiting for main Thyroid one.

After advice from this forum, which I am very grateful for, I had some private blood test by medichecks this week.

I am with a private Endocrinologists, but, I am having serious doubts on the speed at which we seem to be progressing, others have also pointed this out, as it seems to be me suggesting test, through the guidance of this forum.

I did request a list from Louise as per advice of this forum, and his name was on the list of private Endocrinologists (I was already with him), as a posting said maybe he wasn't right for the job. I appreciate that it is not a list of recommendations though, but I'm beginning to think they are right.

I have had blood tests carried out by him, but it's been vitamins and only TSH. I was also tested for Epstein Barr Virus which I tested positive for.

I have not got the official print out for all the blood tests below, they are only hand typed. I know this is NOT acceptable and I have been chasing this. I have been promised my latest bloods (taken August) and the ones below will be provided to me in the official format by the end of week so I can see the ranges

Date taken 12-6-17

Cortisol 397

LH 3.2

FSH 5.4

Oestradiol 209

Date taken 19-6-17

LH 5.0

FSH 10.5

Oestradiol 109

Date taken 26-6-17

LH 4.5

FSH 7.5

Oestradiol 533

Vit D 133

B12 634

Ferritin 23

I was put on 40,000 IU of vitamin D to take once a week and some liquid iron 5ml x 3 a day. My vitamin D has increased to 133, which I said was too high now and the consultant said it wasn't as measured differently UK/USA. I have stopped taking this although I was told to carry on. I am going away soon where we are going to have lots of sunshine so I know I don't need them.

Like I said I don't know how the Vitamin D results have been measured as don't have the official copies yet, and my iron is too low still.

So with all this in mind and after posting on here, the only way was private blood tests, where I got the results direct. I am still waiting for the Full Thyroid tests to come back and I did a Gluten test, as I also started to notice bad tummy ache and trapped wind. Hashimoto's has been mentioned by my Endocrinologists and also on here after my previous posts.

Here are my private blood results so far taken 25th September 2017:

Calcium 2.32 (2.20 -2.60 mmol/L)

corrected Calcium 2.20 (2.20 -2.60 mmol/L

proteins - Albumin 52 (34 - 50 g/L)

Lab commented that Albumin out of range, but, not to worry.

Parathyroid Hormone 2.0 (1.6-6.9 pmol/L)

Like I said I'm waiting for the full Thyroid test and Gluten test as well.

I am freezing cold, like ice cold water running through my body and my feet feel like they are in ice cold water. I am exhausted all the time, and it is getting worse, I couldn't take my child to music class last night as just no energy. I ended up in bed for a 2 hours sleep.

I am sleeping very well, but, don't feel refreshed and feel like I need to sleep again, I am very low in my moods and I have very stiff neck, my weight, well it's a nightmare no matter what I do, I can't maintain it at all.

Thinking about it I have been having the above symptoms for over 18 months, but, they came individually until, bang, they all came at once. I did go to my doctors first and had several test and my TSH was 6 , and vitamin levels were so low so told to take Vitamin D from over the counter at 1,000 IU, but this didn't help.

I had to move doctors as I moved and they would not keep me on (only moved a mile away) begged to stay, but, no wasn't in the catchment area.

The doctors I am at now I have not even been to see, as there was only two surgeries that would take us and I had to pick the best out of a bad bunch (the other one is in special measures).

I managed to get the referral to the Endocrinologists before I left my other doctors.

I have also paid for a scan, which was carried out yesterday, (i suggested this) this has to be sent to my Endocrinologist and they have now sent me the written findings see below:

"Both lobes of thyroid are mildly enlarged with altered texture. No focal lesion identified. A few cysts noted in both lobes. Vascularity in both lobes is with in normal limits. Appearances could be due to Hashimoto's thyroiditis. No abnormality noted in the submandibular glands. No evidence of lymphadenopathy in the neck.

I have been in contact with a Endocrinologist in London (due to the lack of progress with my current one) and I have been told they need to see my latest blood results *( I am waiting for some of the private ones ) and scan results and a referral before they decided to take me on as a private patient. I am based in Lincolnshire, so I am prepared to travel, but, it would have to be via train to London as driving would be around 4 hours and I can take the train in 1 hour 40 mins.

I did speak to a friend that knows someone that experience something the same and she said that the calcium level and my PTH level is like a seesaw effect and somethings not right and I could have autoimmune disease, and if I start to get numbness and tingling around mouth, legs and arms go to A&E as it's a sign I need calcium.

Apologies for the long post, but, I feel I'm in limbo at the minute and I am dreading my holiday which we have saved hard for because of how I feel.

Any advice is always greatly appreciated.

Peanut31,

VitD 133nmol/L is optimal in UK but most of us need to supplement to maintain levels during Oct-Apr when ultraviolet light is too low to stimulate natural vitD. 1,000 D3 daily or 7,000-10,000iu per week should be sufficient.

B12 634 is adequate and very unlikely to be deficient.

Ferritin 22 is very low. Ferritin is optimal half way through range or around 70-100 if you don't have the ranges. You can raise ferritin by supplementing 1 or 2 x 210mg Ferrous Fumarate with 1,000mg vitamin C to aid absorption and minimise constipation.

Vitamin D and Ferrous Fumarate should be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

Corrected calcium is bottom of range. I would retest in 3-6 months because if it drops you will need to supplement calcium. Symptoms of low calcium are tingling and numbness around the mouth or nose and in fingers and toes.

Parathyroid hormone is within range so that's fine. I suspect your friend is suggesting hyper or hypo parathyroidism. I don't believe your calcium and PTH results currently indicate either.

You can Google "Albumin high" to see the reasons for elevated Albumin but bear in mind it is mildly elevated and may not be significant.

When you get your thyroid and antibody results post them in a new question and members will interpret and advise.

As your private endo is not being forth coming with your thyroid results why not write to him (email's fine) and make a subject access request for your results. He will have to respond with 40 days. ico.org.uk/for_the_public/t...
