Houston Thyroid and Endocrine state vitD3 can significantly reduce absorption of thyroid hormone and advise taking it 4 hours away from thyroxine as advised with calcium and iron.
These are medications that reduce the absorption of thyroid hormone in the gastrointestinal system significantly. These medications/foods lead to erratic thyroid hormone levels in the blood. Generally they should not be taken within four hours of taking thyroid medication. It is strongly advised that you speak to your physician before changing medication frequency or dosages.
–Colestipol hydrochloride
–Sucralfate
–Ferrous sulfate
–Calcium Carbonate tablets (milk and dairy and almond milk are fine)
Gabkad, no let off, they're very good for you as long as you eat them four hours away from thyroxine and that doesn't mean you nibble thyroxine all day to avoid nuts
Thanks for putting this info on, I take my pills an hour before breakfast, it often includes walnuts in my muesli, and follow on with supplements that includes D3, so could explain my bad days. I had no idea it would affect my levels.
Fennel, came as a surprise to me too. I've always allowed 2 hours between food, supplements and thyroid replacement but will have to stretch it for some now.
This was linked in one of the comments in that article Spare posted up above: Dr. Grimes. Very interesting in regards to Vitamin D receptors, osteomalacia and crohn's disease (not in that order). The Crohn's stuff starts at 12 minutes. He says he gets 50% resolution with 20,000 IU D3 per week.
Interesting about that woman who ate fish imported from Bangladesh 3 times per day and how it kept her vitamin D levels good.......I guess she ate the whole fish, liver and all....
No wonder people feel so good when they lie under those sunlamps. And this doctor didn't even tell the guy to stop.... over here it's a no no. I think unHealth Canada just wants everyone to need prescription drugs.
Interesting - thanks Clutter. I had no idea prunes were to be avoided around thyroid meds too. I always have a glass of prune juice with my breakfast (helps the chronic constipation). Will have to change things around a bit.
