Colestyramine

As most of the side effects listed on the leaflet are linked to xanthan gum my suspicion is that colestyramine is not the cause! Does anyone else take colestyramine and if so does it contain xanthan gum? If not I’d be greatful if you could let me know the manufacturer.

I’ve been taking colestyramine while waiting for my seHcat scan. Since taking the colestyramine and significantly reducing the fat in my diet my symptoms have for the most past disappeared. Occasionally they come back if I eat high fat over the course of a day.

HelloI was doing very well with colestyramine and Dermacool cream to treat my subcutaneous itching but it has returned with a vengeance. It's almost intolerable and severely affects my life and sleep. Frankly it is just making me cry most days. Has anyone tried light therapy for this?

I still take Colestyramine for subcutaneous itching which I already had. Is there any advice you kind people can offer to help relieve my symptoms? Thanks Cecelia

My doctor put me on colestyramine a powder I mix in juice. It definitely helped me.

I try to eat as little salt and I dare (considering the body needs SOME to survive) and I take 2 x Colestyramine powders in water per day. I have been told to reduce my fluid intake, such as water/cups of tea etc. and reduce it to 1.5 litres per day. I try but I do get very thirsty!

Ive been prescribed Colestyramine to try and see what happens, they should be delivered on Monday. Today, i feel sicker then usual and struggling to eat. When people have bad days and feel quite sick, what are people's go to thing to try?

This happened last week and he started me on Colestyramine 4 g and after first dose I noticed such a difference ! Having ruled out other causes for my IBSd through dietary changes , colonoscopy ,FIT testing etc I can’t believe it’s taken this long for BAM to be identified as the cause.

Hello. Has anyone experienced any side effects with Cholestyramine? Been told its a 14 month wait to see the gastroenterologist and doctors have done basic tests which came back negative except the calprotectin test which was raised. I have asked to try cholestyramine. Many thanks

from Dr Jones' book - Cholestyramine (Questran) is the first line treatment for the itching. If this doesn't work, then taking Rifampicin is the next line of therapy. My cholesterol has gone to very good this month as I have just been prescribed Colestyramine for Bile Acid Malabsorption which has caused me problems for years. Now I have chest pains which I thought was indigestion. Mainly at night and the pain wakes me.

My husband has had explosive diarrhea since mid February. After blood tests, stool samples, colonoscopy, and more stool samples, they are not able to determine what is causing the diarrhea. The doctor has prescribed Cholestyramine. Has anyone had experience with this medication and did it help?
