Steroid injection into bottom
Hi all, quick question, hoping for some guidance, I have been having periods of high pain levels and stiffness, phoned the helpline and the nurse has responded with a systemic steroid injection, but when I research this, it looks like intravenous injections can work systemically, but an injection into

What now?
It’s now seven weeks since my last steroid injection in my left knee. It lasted for about five weeks and now the pain has returned. Don’t think my knee actually reduced in size despite fluid being drained or perhaps it was marginal. Now my knee pain is referring down the front of my shin and round the

Can you describe your flares to me?
Hi there everyone, I am new here and relatively new to the RA experience. I was diagnosed with Seropositive RA in April this year, having had symptoms for around a year previously. I currently take Methotrexate, Hydroxychloroquine & Sulfasalazine and I'm interested in hearing about other people's experiences

Steroid injections and Riveroxaban
Hi.… went for a steroid injection in my hip and the young doctor said that my consultant should have mentioned that I was on Riveroxaban as he couldn't give me a joint injection because of the risk of internal bleeding. I have now been diagnosed with a thyroid nodule and have to have a fine needle

Hi I put a post on the other day about comments on Tocilizimubab as I hope to start in the next few weeks .. in the meantime Friday I had a steroid injection as I’m in so much pain but I’ve had no relief . It was a depo medrone in the bottom , has anyone else had a failed steroid injection or is it

Newbie .. follow up
So following on from my previous long post, I had my telephone consult with the lupus unit tonight so wanted to update. Apparently between the blood test results and the physically presentation she feels that there is currently no active lupus - the swelling I present could be soft tissue or even skin

Pre-RA and three months on from initial consultation
Wanted to share an update on my Pre-RA and steps I have been taken. 3 months since seeing GP, and just over 2 since seeing consultant; I have made all suggested changes. Albeit, smoking only reduced by half. I have l lost 12kg now, and am going to the gym 6 days a week. The gym has been really important

Bad structural damage to one hand and beginning on the other but normal test scores
Hello All, I am 46 and have had rheumatoid arthritis since I was 38. I have tried methotraxat but this was not effective and also caused a side effect of very severe headaches. My NHS hospital gave me leflunomide instead about five months ago but it is very ineffective. I have severe pain and swelling

Could a fracture in a joint actually help cartilage regeneration?
Here is a puzzle. I've had osteoarthritis for many years and it was always under control. I didn't take any medications for it. Now it has become worse and it may be partly because of the extended time I've been on oral pred. We now know that steroid injections damage cartilage. But before I came

Scabbing alopecia
Hi, I developed alopecia four years ago along with telegon effluvium after a traumatic event. I ended up shaving my head and had steroid injections and thankfully it grew back fine. Having just got to the point where I love my hair again (it sounds so vain but I hate they way I look and I’m overweight

Newly diagnosed SeroNegative RA
I have just been diagnosed with SeroNegative RA - although awaiting some further xrays (inc neck and chest) and I think rheumatologist might also be checking for ankylosing spondylitis. I had a hip replacement 8 weeks ago following a a diagnosis of rapidly progressive osteoarthritis although it would

Mtx and steroid injection on same day?
Hi, I've got a steroid injection booked for tomorow (Tues) with my GP and I normally have my mtx injection on Tuesday as well. Is it ok to have it on the same day or should I leave it a day or two or missing it all together this week? It's so long since I had an injection that I can't remember the protocol

Rituximab quandary
I've been on Orencia for about 3 years and I've never really felt that it was super effective, but continued it along with sulfasalazine and hydroxy. I received a steroid injection into my hip a few weeks ago and within days my old rings fit again and a pair of my boots were much more comfortable.

Sitting down is a real pain!
Hello I have suffered from lower back pain for most of my adult life. I suspect that this is in common with many, many people but just over 2 years ago I had another familiar episode but this time it did not diminish with the usual sodium diclofenac and Co-Codomol. The main painful and very frustrating

Newly diagnosed with RA
Hi all, I'm Dominic, I was recently diagnosed with seropositive RA, I am/was a keen Marathon/ultra marathon runner and competed in an off road ultra marathon as recently as July, I then developed a pain in one toe which I presumed was a stress fracture from said run, over the next few weeks, this spread

Tocilizumab or Baricitinib?
HI -- I've had RA for 14 years, diagnosed at 40. Have had a great partnership with Enbrel for over 10 years. They changed me on to Humira, an equivalent (as an NHS cost-saving). Not sure if that interfered with my condition, but suffered with swelling and pain, in every joint. This has been ongoing since

Sulfasalazine
What’s people’s experience of Sulfasalazine? I’m on my second week so now taking 2 tablets per day, increasing to 4 tabs by week 4. I was fine on 1 tablet but since increasing to 2 tablets 5 days ago, I’m feeling really weak, shaky & nauseous. I’m still in a flare up and unfortunately Prednisolone and
