Question about Quinine
Hello everything, I have a question about this drug and would greatly appreciate some advise on it. I am currently doing a methadone detox and right down to 6mg. For the past 5 days I have been given this drug for cramps && RLS. They're telling me it can take up to two weeks for it to work for RLS.

Does anyone have chronic muscle spasms/cramps?
I take
Quinine
every day but it doesn't get rid or them. I am not sure if it is not working or that without it they would be worse. Anyone else suffer from this and do you take anything else?

Night Cramps
I've tried several things like drinking Tonic Water (
Quinine
) and extra stretching but to date it has not helped. It's driving me mad, not only is it painful it's also now impacting on my sleep :( I guess I am hoping it's not related to running! Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Has anyone else got a Bakers Cyst?
I suffered terrible cramps in this leg in particular (was prescribed
quinine
which stopped it and eventually I no longer needed the
quinine
). The cramps came back with a vengeance as I became severely hypothyroid, and before diagnosis.

I have had mild RLS for years but after a hip replacement last July and coming off morphine 3 months ago, my RLS is unbearable.
Am taking
quinine
sulphate and folic acid but not really any improvement. It is almost unbearable as I find it hard to drop off to sleep and then, when I do, I wake up again with it.

Pain Quinine and other medication.
My GP suggested
quinine
tablets or tonic water but I am not sure if the adverse side affects might outweigh the benefits. I'm on other meds would these react to
quinine
???

quinine bisulphate and CKD
Since my last posting I have found more info. on the use of Q Bi-Sulph for leg cramps. It is not recommended, as one side effect is stated to be possible renal failure. Why then, I wonder, was I prescribed it many moons ago at 50 (I am now 81) when I was already at least Stage 2? I can only think

quinine to treat cramps and cll patients.
My husband has been given two different opinions, one the cll consultant saying
quinine
should be avoided and a registrar saying it is perffectly suitable.

Graham Hughes' July blog 2013
She was started on the classical pair of treatments - aspirin (later changed to Plavix) and Plaquenil (a
quinine
derivative) for the Sjogren's. Three months went by before I saw her again. "Thank you doctor. I've got my life back". The headaches, the aches and pains, the fatigue - gone!

Is anyone else bothered with leg and foot cramps? I have PV Jak 2 negative.
I asked my haematologist and was told it was probably due to low iron levels and that drinking tonic water (
quinine
) would help. When I mentioned to the cramps to my GP he just laughed as the level of
quinine
in tonic water is apparently tiny. He gave me
quinine
tablets.

Tonic water and Hydroxichloraquine?
So what I've suddenly thought is that it could be the
quinine
in the tonic clashing with the Hydroxy which also contains
quinine
. Has anyone else had an experience like this or know anything about drinking tonic water with Hydroxy?

New to Forum...not sure if I have RLS and advice would be great.
My doc prescribed
Quinine
to me but after doing some research I decided not to take it. I have now pestered him to put me back into the system again, although he said there wasn't any point, and have an appointment in Jan at Neurology.
