day out at the Brompton !
Well I have had my lung function test and my echo back at the Brompton this week, followed by a consult with the doc. It seems I could be a prime subject for valves or alternative help with the lungs, seems the worse the lungs are the better they like it, I now have to wait for an appointment for

Any comments from Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis sufferers particularly the the drug nintedanib (Ofev). Also about oxygen bags or other containers that can be recharged at home from my consentrater? I am 76 and about 5 years since first diagnosed ,

I'm due to have LVRS soon. Has anybody here had it recently and would they be willing to tell about their experience?

Ablation and anticoagulants
Hi All, me again! Just a follow up from my previous posts. As you know I had an ablation for AF last Monday and was prescribed Rivaroxaban to take for six weeks afterwards. As with my previous experience with Apixaban, Rivaroxaban is affecting me in exactly the same way, breathless, dizzy, feeling faint

3 months smoke free
I quit smoking 3 months ago after smoking for 40 years. I’m having shortness of breath with minimal exertion. I even went to the ER the other day fearing it was a heart attack. I had a stress test and my heart is fine. I have pulmonary function tests this week. I’m so sad. I thought once I quit smoking

Coming off beta blockers
I was put on beta blockers in August 2016. I started on 2.5mg and went down to 1.25mg. I can't remember when my dose was lowered, but that probably happened in June 2017. I have been on Rivaroxaban (Xarelto) since my ablation in January 2017 and remain on that but nothing else. I stopped taking beta

Medicinal cannabis
I’ve been told by my GP that he can no longer prescribe Fentanyl lozenges for my breakthrough pain. I’ve always known they are palliative care drugs. They worked for me. Now I’m stressed about how I’ll cope when my last two are gone. Has anyone else had medicinal cannabis prescribed? If so did it work

How long were you on oxygen after lung volume reduction surgery?
A good friend of mine had LVRS a couple of months ago and although he is recovering, he is fed up with being tied to an oxygen tank 24/7. We cannot find any anecdotal evidence of how long other people who have had LVRS were on oxygen, so I thought I would ask here. Can anyone please help? Thanks.

Caffeine and spirometery tests
Hi everyone. Ive just been reading about the effects caffeine apparently can have on spirometry tests. Quite suprised when it stated caffeine is a bronchodialator that can last up to 4 hours after having say, a cup of tea or coffee or a coke etc so it could lead to false spirometery readings and so the

AMBOT and AAA
Having recently attended a respiratory medicine clinic for detailed pulmonary function tests; followed up immediately by attending a diagnostic meeting with a consulting physician, it was proposed that I undertake an ambulatory oxygen test. My question is: Could the stress of the testing have any effect

Intal/Tilade - Medication for exercise induced asthma
I have been doing some research whilst trying to rest up after the weekend, and it seems there are some medications around which target exercise induced asthma. Generally my asthma is reasonably well controlled, but exercise remains an issue for me. For example this weekend, I used ventolin before I

Pulmonary Function
I just had a pulmonary function test and it was normal. I had my first asthma attack during a case of the flu in February. I’m 62 and did have asthma as a child, but had no problem since the age of 9 or 10. What does a normal test mean? Was the asthmatic bronchitis I had just a freak thing? Any
