I quit smoking 3 months ago after smoking for 40 years. I’m having shortness of breath with minimal exertion. I even went to the ER the other day fearing it was a heart attack. I had a stress test and my heart is fine. I have pulmonary function tests this week. I’m so sad. I thought once I quit smoking I’d feel great. Now I can barely walk a block. I’m glad I found this forum to know I’m not alone. Sometimes I think I should just go back to smoking. I quit because I had developed a deep nagging cough and wheezing but I was never short of breath like this. It will get better right?? Just looking for reassurance to stay away from the cigarette store....

I'm also experiencing shortness of breath at time with little exertion. I do believe my wheezing is getting better though. Hope you feel better.

It's random, not every day.

I think it could be something to do with anxiety, a little. I've passes over 4,000 not smoked so I've gotta be better off than I would of been.. the shortness of breath/wheezing we're 2 main reasons I quit.. hang tuff/ not 1 puff🚭🔡 Jeff

Hello, Crazycatlady1957!

I also smoked for 40 years and quit smoking 2 and a half months ago. I fully understand what you mean. I'm not having shortness of breath regularly, that is everyday, BUT when I had a cold last week I was having problems breathing that I had never had when I smoked! I can't offer an explanation, just send you my congratulations for quitting and saying hang on! I am sure it will pass!

We are NOT going back!

With regards the shortness of breath, it could be your lungs clearing out and repairing BUT please go to your doctor for piece of mind. Let us know how you get on...

Thank you! Yes, I saw my doctor. I had a stress test that was normal. I’m having lung function tests Thursday to be safe.

I was hoping to get my gallbladder out next week but the timing won’t allow it. With my work, next week would have been perfect. Oh well. Still smoke free and have lost 8 pounds!!

PS My husband got his gallbladder removed 2 years ago, will be great to be an ex smoker for the procedure and recovery so that will be a great motivator for you when you do get rescheduled to get it done :)
