COPD Going Backwards ?
I was diagnosed with COPD around 2012. The diagnosis was moderate, but I think that perhaps it was at the bad end of moderate. I had at least one flare up due to a chest infection which saw me hospitalized for a short period. I was in a right state before going into Hospital. The infection saw me waking

The Homeless Are Not Just For Christmas
Himself asked me today where do homeless people go to the lavatory...funny sort of a question you might think...but that did make me wonder why we imagine we're living in some sort of advanced society when every town and city has people who are actually without a home... Not through choice...not like

Has anyone heard anymore about the treatment of emphysema with the treatment of retinoic acid being carried out by Professor Malcom Maden at Kings College London?

There 'Ain't No Stopping Me Now...
The excitement is too much...just shows what an incredibly boring life we lead, when the arrival of a wheelchair...in metallic blue...gets me all of a quiver. It was never an item on my list of objects I'd love to own...doesn't really compare with an electric train set for instance or the Mediaeval table

Peeping Over The Parapet...
We have all we need...food on the table and warmth when it's cold...enough clothes and hot water and a loo that flushes. We have good neighbours and a reliable car and just enough money to spare for hobbies... There are our pets...the kittens who snuggle up and purr in my ear at night...the dogs Himself

Dental work
I have root resorption on one of my front teeth, the dentist will have to remove it and either fit an implant or I will have a denture on a plate instead. My GP said I need to stop my warfarin for a day before and two days after and have heparin instead, he said the dentist should arrange this. When

COPD research in Derbyshire
I’ve been approached by a postgraduate research student, Karen, at Keele University. She is doing a research project into the ways in which men in semi-rural towns, aged 55 and over, look after themselves when they are diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The study will take

Prolonged TV watching linked to fatal Pulmonary Embolisms
Not CLL related, but I wouldn't count on our tendency to have lower platelet counts to protect us from this risk, which can be overcome by not staying inactive for lengthy periods of time. [i]'Results of a large study suggest that watching television for prolonged periods may increase a person’s risk

Shortness of breath with hiatus hernia?
Hi - I've been struggling to get an answer for my chronic shortness of breath for about 6 weeks now. I've had (mistaken) diagnosis of COPD, anxiety, angina and GERD. Now, the docs are making me self inject a blood thinner until I can get a CT scan on Monday as they think I could have a pulmonary embolism

Flu Vaccine and anticoagulants
I went into Boots for my flu vaccine, and paid for it as I was told NHS did not know when they would be ready yet ( I had no prob last year). Since last year I have been taking Dabigatran. After quite a wait I was finally told that I would need to have it subcutaneously but that the pharmacists had

Warfarin
I have been on Warfarin for the last 10 years and was told I will be on it for life. My INR, however, seems to be a continual moving target. I have now been taken off Warfarin and put on Rivaroxaban to control my INR. I have also been told that I no longer need to have my level checked. If that is the
