hello, I’ve been lurking on the site for around 7 months, since my OH was hospitalised in August and we found he had liver cirrhosis. It’s been a challenging few months and he’s been medically retired from work now. We are trying to live life as fully as we can, within his limitations, as many

G P telephone consultation
My GP rang to review my blood tests. All were normal apart from an elevated GGT. It has been elevated for a long time which is why I was referred for a Fibroscan and this scan showed Cirrhosis (17kpa). As I have mentioned previously this was alarming news as I had never drank and had a lower BMi.

Cirrhosis Reversal Question
I had HCV and was successfully treated and have been HCV free for around 8 years. At that time I was diagnosed with Cirrhosis , platelets around 64 000 , enlarged spleen , fibroscan at 22.1. I have been checked routinely by very good hospitals. My last 3 fibroscans have improved each time .first

Is it fair to keep cirrhosis a secret from family?
Hi, I just learned a parent has stage 4 liver cirrhosis. Some family has known for a year that tests were borderline and this was a possibility. This parent has been sober for over one year and is walking 1-2 miles a day. We’re told it’s compensated stage 4 and he could have anywhere from one year to

cirrhosis and statins
I’ve not asked for help on here before and would really appreciate any advice. I have alcoholic cirrhosis and am being recommended statins for cholesterol by my practice nurse. I’m a 57 year old UK male. The information sheet from the nurse session warns not to take statins if you have cirrhosis. I’m

LFT Results - Help
I have had some tests done recently and I was expecting the liver would be an issue. I have been a heavy drinker for quite some time. I had full bloods done which were all fine. Electrolytes were also fine. The doctor said my LFTs were abnormal, I asked if it indicated Cirrhosis and he said he didn't

Hello! I've been diagnosed with liver disease and cirrhosis of the liver due to a recent relapse with alcohol. I've had abdominal paracentesis 4 times. Ive returned to 3 different hospitals requesting the same procedure only to tell me to continue my diuertics, its too risky. My weight is slowly

Should we worry?
mum is on large doses of lactulose and diuretics and has been feeling very unwell all day. She hasn’t been able to open her Bowles at all, and seems very confused. is this an A&E job?

cirrhosis analogy
Happy New Year to all! I saw my primary care doc yesterday for my annual exam, after seeing my Hepatologist in August. Both said all of my bloodwork is normal, albeit slightly low platelets. 130’s-140’s. I asked my primary care about 1) possible worsening, 2) measurement of fibrosis (fibroscan)

How quickly can cirrhosis worsen.
Hi allI was diagnosed 2 years ago with compensated cirrhosis, portal hypertension, no ascites and 3 small varices that didn't need treatment. Everything was jogging along without change, no worse, no better. But, here it comes, I've had a bad time just lately, my husbands dementia is worsening and I'm

Private fibroscan?
Hi. I posted last week, the surgeon performing my laprascopic gallbladder surgery has seen fibrotic changes in my liver about 4 weeks ago. My most recent LFT'S (in April) were largely normal, bilirubin raised slightly (consistently for years) alongside slightly low platelets and slightly raised mean

Knocked sideways
Ive been reading all your posts but not actually written anything for a while because in my stupid head I thought we were plodding along even if it was at a plateau level. Kev was diagnosed with non alcoholic liver cirrhosis back in July. He also had sepsis twice and ended up in intensive care where

Problems with medication supplies
Hi. Since I recently swapped to home deliveries for medication, every 4 weeks some meds are missing or out of stock.I didn't have this problem when I ordered directly from the GP, changed over because I was struggling to get into town to collect my prescriptions. The messages from Lloyds Pharmacy says

Alcohol related cirrhosis and drinking
I was diagnosed with cirrhosis in September 2023 after a fibroscan. I am considered compensated due to my lab work and no ascites or symptoms. I am an alcoholic and made the stupid mistake of drinking a glass of red wine at a Christmas party last week. Of course now I am hating myself and absolutely

liver health
so …. I consider myself a fairly intelligent individual, but the thing I don’t get is why does our consultants want our bloods normal , how does that help us when I’ve read your still classed as cirrhotic and it’s just the the healthy bits of the liver are emitting these correct chemicals , does this

Finally got FibroScan
Some of you may remember I was diagnosed with NASH Cirrhosis on a CT scan a few months ago. I then had a FibroTest which showed F3 fibrosis. After months of waiting I finally had the FibroScan done last week and results are kpa 11.9 which is considered cirrhosis 😞 in NASH patients. I didn’t get a CAP
