Hey Mills1976

It's mgs not grams

MINERALS -- - Renapro per 60ml

Sodium 96 mg

Potassium 12 mg

Calcium 9 mg

Magnesium 1.8 mg

Phosphorus 1.6 mg

No problem. You're missing a zero as there's a 1000 mg in a gram.

So, in this example it's 0.096

It seems to depend on the flavour of the Renapro shot, for example cherry has 114mg per bottle - not a lot more

Renapro is a very balanced protein supplement with great bioavailability (but I'm in no way endorsing it) Whoever prescribed it I'm assuming knows your complete medical history. Perhaps what really matters is whether you're keeping the other parts of your diet liver friendly, low sodium and so on.

Thankyou again. So these shots are ok to take re sodium then? I am doing everything like high protein meats and beans, pulses etc, lots of veg and fruit and water. Very lower sugar etc so hopefully im doing the right thing. Thank you so much x

Hi Mills1976

A High Calorie, High Protein diet is so important in liver disease, you need to be eating every 2 hours and include high quality protein in every meal and snack, then at bedtime you must eat at least 50g carbohydrate bedtime snack to see your body through the night, this tries to counteract the liver breaking down muscles, the liver can break muscle down faster than it can body fat, I cannot stress this enough.

My husband was prescribed 3 renopro shots and 2 fortisip compact protein per day which gave 96g high quality protein per day.

My husband sadly was not given the nutritional support at the beginning of his liver journey and the damage soon escalated, he lost so much muscle mass, then I was just chasing trying to feed my husband back up which to a certain extent we did rebuild. I had to shout at the hospital for help with my husbands nutrition! Sadly, my husband lost his battle to liver disease last Saturday, we are broken as a family 💔

if we had been given the correct support, I feel we would be in a much different place right now.

Please take good care of yourself, shout loud and clear to your Liver team for help! eat every 2 hours throughout the day, then have your 50g (minimum) carbohydrate bedtime snack & get as much nutritionist support as you possibly can

Take care

K xx

I am so so sorry to hear that. I have been doing all of those things and cant stop eating but healthy protein veg l, fruit and healthy carbs only. After having severe water retention too i have managed to get that down to my normal weight which is skinny legs and arms which i now believe has been caused by liver over time but wasnt aware. I am trying to build that up. I have reduced sugar intake extensively and cut out salt but there is obvs a small amount of salt in some things but i try my best, home cooking only, so hopefully im doing all the right things. I am so so so so sorry to hear about your husband and i thankyou from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to reply to my.message in such a hard time. Much love ❤️

Have you seen a dietician Mills? Sometimes where you are so deficient the 'healthy' options arn't what you actually need. You need plenty carbs and protein in whatever form you can get it ............ we were surprised when hubby saw liver specialist dietician and she was like "Do you like scones, potatoes, cream cakes, full fat cream, yoghurt, milk .............. blah, blah, blah??" and hubby was afraid to say "Yes" knowing how unhealthy these things are. Dietician reply "Good, I want you eating more of that sort of thing."

I'll send you a PM with some information which may help.

I eventually did see a dietician but when i was fist in hospital they just said eat eat eat and never miss your dessert so thats what i did. I now managed my own diet. Lots of protein like fish and chicken, no fried food(never liked it anyway) and good carbs like quinoa, cous cous, sweet potatoes etc. And onvs veg and fruit which i love anyway. Look forward to.your pm x

Hi Mills1976,

Please listen to Katie, she is so knowledgable with lots of different things she has supported her husband with. Katie helped me massively with my husbands journey with nutrition, I am forever thankful.

You need to fortify your full fat whole milk with skimmed milk powder (1 pint of whole milk per day, add 4 tablespoons Marvel skimmed milk powder and whisk), use this for cereals, drinks, in custard, puddings etc.

Full fat cream, high protein puddings, greek yogurt, thick and creamy yogurts etc.

Also get yourself some resistance bands and dumb bells and do weight bearing exercises too, this will help rebuild your muscles.

One thing we learned on my husbands 13 month journey is you are far better being pro active with liver health than chasing to repair as we had to with my husband, he was so let down on his journey through the Hospital 💔

From the bottom of my heart, I wish you well with your liver journey. If I can give you one piece of advice, it is shout, shout, shout until you are heard and never ever take no for an answer! xx

My very best wishes

K xx
