hi guys,

Hope everyone is well!

So when I have my bloods done all are within normal range but my platelets have always been lower since diagnosis 4yrs ago! My platelets have always been around the 85 mark. They then went to 68 then back up to 78 and last bloods done today they have dropped again to 64 this is the lowest they have ever been! Consultant isn’t concerned at this point just need to be careful with bleeding etc! Is there anything I can do to help them raise again I.e certain foods to eat or avoid?

Alts, gamma etc are all good it’s just platelets and I’m slightly concerned

thanks for reading

I would speak to your GP and see if its worth being referred to Haematology, I had low platelet count for 6+ years sitting between 80-90 normally with the occasional dip and they diagnosed me with ITP (Immune thrombocytopenic purpura) they do a lot of tests in order to make the diagnosis as its one of those disorders that don't have a singular test to make diagnosis.

Not saying this is what it is but its worth checking and getting the investigations done by a specialist. if your platelets drop lower that's when they would normally make a treatment plan.

Hi,

I have been referred thankfully just wondered if there is something I can do in the meantime. Are you platelets back up and back to normal after referral and treatment plan?

Thanks for replying and I hope you are well

I'm ok, my right side still uncomfortable, still have raised ALT,AST, bad cholesterol, and still not able to lose weight even though i am trying and have been since January.

Its more of a waiting game unfortunately. Luckily I didn't need any treatment just monitoring. My platelets over the last 6 month have been very interesting! so i had my gallbladder out in January and since then my platelet count has slightly increased and on average i sit around 100-120 I was told there is no link and its just a coincidence but i just cant help but find it weird as to why its gone up now after having gallbladder removed

Only main advice i can give is monitor them and keep track of your symptoms, if you notice your symptoms getting worse i.e bruising, gums bleeding, the little red spots on your calves then ask for a blood test to check your platelet count as these are some of signs of a low platelet count.

annoyingly i discharged myself from Haematology as all they wanted to do was monitor so i thought GP can do that saves wasting the specialists time, but now I'm like i should have kept the appointments 😔

Hi Chaz, I feel your platelet strife. I’m focusing on increasing protein, dark greens, and citrus. So think about foods high in vitamins A, B, C, and K. Mine aren’t terribly low, but low enough that I am concerned and want to raise them. All of the rest of my bloodwork is very good

One thing I have read is that platelets vary tremendously and can change over a day based on exercise, circadian rhythm, etc. So I guess when you are on the low end, a variation which occurs normally for anyone appears to be a big deal for us. I am no doctor but the variation you mention in your post does not appear to be significant. (Not that I am not worried about mine ! 😆 )

Do you have your bloodwork in the morning ? Ever any symptoms ?

Is your spleen enlarged? If so, reducing portal hypertension could help. Mine isn’t so I’m even more confused.

I hope this helps.

Hi greengal,

Yes bloods always in the morning and no I have no symptoms no bruising etc that I have noticed I feel great!

Last scan thankfully everything was normal. I did have a varice bleed last year but after banding everything has been fine and I’m due my yearly endoscopy this month.

I’m going to up my greens and citrus and just see what happens. I have a blood test in 4 weeks and they will continue to monitor like.

Thanks again for your response xx

I have looked up the normal range for platelet count and it reads 130-450. Is this what you all are seeing as the range? ...thanks
