Why so grim....

My question is to the British liver trust. Do you know why the hospital consultants say to you maybe have 3 years to live after a stomach acities drain and decompressed cirrosis. yet many people here are saying they are living a good life. İt's cruel to give that information and then share it with your families and then you appear like a liar when you could have a good life.

I would think the Dr's prognosis was max 3 years if you continued drinking.Quiting can stop it progressing and add very many healthy years.

Hi, my mum had ascites drained and was diagnosed at decompensated cirrhosis stage, she was told she had a limited life and when you tick certain boxes of your livers declining health it gives them a general guideline. From reading literature my mum had about 3 years, well she made it to five years before passing away from NASH. Everybody is different, my mums cause was irreversible and until reading many others stories it appears your liver can improve, stay the same or decline dependant on what the cause was. I can say caring for my mum on her journey was very hard and the effects of a declining liver and what it does to your body & mind

Sorry I hit the wrong button before I had finished, I think doctors just try and tell the truth and give an estimated outlook and to help a patient see that if there is a way to improve your livers health to do all that you can. I send you love and would recommend counselling, it's a heavy load to come to terms with xx
