INR/FIBRINOGEN

Can someone please tell me if anything else can affect INR or FIBRINOGEN levels, last year my INR was 1 on the ratio and is now 1.1 does this mean the liver is getting worse or can that figure change, it is literally just on the last part of normal now, also my FIBRINOGEN is almost double what it should be, I’m just not sure if other things can affect the reads, I totally understand that you are not doctors but this is purely me just trying to understand how these figures work, nothing more, I can’t phone the liver help line because I’m just not around during the times they are free, it really is a case of just wanting to learn anything that I can from people with such knowledge as you all, thank you in advance xx

Vitamin K deficiency can lead to increase INR level. However it can be both. I mean if you have cirrhosis it might also increase INR (due to your liver damage it is some other thing). 1.1 is still within normal range.

Hi Sophia Don’t panic. Mine has gone back and forth between 1 and 1.1. Stayed at 1 for a long time after being 1.1

The prothrombin time measures clotting time that falls into a range, that puts you in the INR group. So, your prothrombin time could put you at the low end of 1.1 but .1 sec less on prothrombin time would put you back down to an INR of 1. Similarly you could be an INR of 1, but if your prothrombin time is .1 second longer it could bump you up to 1.1

Nonetheless, these vary daily and it by no means indicates it will get worse. (I need to remind myself that too! 😂 ). Time of day can affect results as well.

1.1 is still in the normal range.

I am not familiar with fibrinogen.

Have a great day!

me too. 😆 it’s a mystery how my platelets can go down and INR down or vice versa. They both have to do with clotting.

I would think they would be directly related. ? 🤷‍♀️ you would think increased platelets = quicker clotting…????

I guess the bottom line is neither is changing that much or continuing to go strongly in one direction. They oscillate around the same readings.

With any testing there are variables.

Take care. Xx

1.1 is in the normal range as well. Mine went 1.1 to 1. Then to 1.1. Then to 1.

I was kinda worried too, just like my platelets and then they got better than even before.

Fibinogen is a blood clotting protein produced in the liver. Cleveland Clinic seems much more concerned about low levels in the body. I don’t know much more, will ask my gastroenterologist next time I see him. You have me curious now. Happy holidays and God Bless.
