I just wondered if anyone has had any good results using MSM. I am hypothyroid and take Levothyroxine. I also have osteopenia along with feeling lethargic and hair that feels like straw. I've read quite a few good things abut this supplement.

I used it once for hay fever, to great effect. The next year, by mistake I bought tablets instead of capsules, and that didn't work at all. Not sure if the whole thing was down to the placebo effect (I've also had great results from homeopathic remedies) but if the effect begins to fail after a while I do wonder if it was a fluke to begin with.
Is it meant to reduce inflammation?
Yes it is supposed to, along with a whole host of other ailments. I am going to try it. I have ordered the powdered for as it is supposed to be better although it is said to taste awful!
Not had a good night so not thinking clearly but what is MSM?
Hi, Silverfox7, It is a supplement that can be taken. You can find out more here: draxe.com/msm-supplement/
Read the article! It does sound interesting but I've also read the questions at the end, none of which have been answered. 2 are relevant for me.
Allergy to sulfonamides, which I have and because of the goitrogens is it ok for people with thyroid problems
As you and others are using it then I can assume it is ok but not sure about my particular problems was told I have IBS many years ago because of gut pain etc my GP managed to solve the problem when I told him of being unable to breathe after being over faced by the smell of wallflowers he knew they were from the brassica problem so since I've cut out brassicas from my diet the ptoblem has stopped also had a bad allergic reaction to sulphonamides so don't it's for me but thank you so much for sending the link!
If you are lethargic and have dry hair your meds are not optimal. You may want to get your bloods tested for folate, ferritin, B12 and Vit D, as well as TSH, Free T4 and Free T3 (Reverse T3 is good but almost never done). If you continue to take levothyroxine you still may not be able to become optimal, but it's a start.
I know that things are not as they should be, but my GP is adamant that my thyroid is being well managed and I am within the required range.
Well I suspect he is wrong. Learn what the right levels are, and what tests you should be having, and why. If you continue to accept that your doctor knows what he is talking about you will never improve.
The choice is yours.
