Tapering following new PMR diagnosis
Hi, so glad I found this wonderful forum, I've learned so much in the past 2 weeks. My question concerns tapering and levels of pain that can be "ignored". I am 70 years old and until the middle of March was a fit walker, gardener and could still reach to cut my own toenails. I was lucky enough to

Two years in and now Meloxicam for pain
Should I expect it to be effective, I always thought
NSAIDs
were not.

Herbal supplements
I’ve advised the Dr of my condition and the use of
NSAIDS
. He suggested a herbal supplement like Boswellia. Which is still a NSAID but it is processed totally different. I am very careful regarding the medication that I take.

Top 4 Herbs to Reduce Inflammation Instead of NSAIDs -- Dr. Jockers. Long article, good information
"
NSAIDs
are responsible for 100,000 hospitalizations each year and 16,000 deaths." "Eating an inflammatory diet and too much sugar can lead to blood sugar imbalances that cause inflammation and the overproduction of inflammatory cytokines.

Remission
I take some
Nsaids
which helps with the pain and until my attacks become more consistent my doctor does not want me to start any chronic meds. My question is how long have people remained in this remission phase.

Help, I don't know what to do next...
I now have stomach ulcers so can no longer take
NSAIDs
and codeine results in constipation which aggravates the bowel pain further. My GP has run out of painkiller options.

Is it possible to stay at CKD stage 3 or will my kidneys keep getting worse?
I recently discovered I have stage 3 ckd, GFR 56. I’ve since made major changes to my diet while I wait to meet with a dietitian this week. My goal is to try a plant based diet. My kidneys were damaged by the use of NSAID’s because of injuries received while on deployment. I’m 60 years old, 145 lbs,

Vitamin B12 as a Treatment for Pain
Found this new paper and was interested to see some work being done. Sadly, it just reviews existing data. (Oddly, it uses the term hydroxycobalamin, which is much less common. Indeed, MESH adds hydroxocobalamin automatically on PubMed searches - and there are many times more papers referring to hydroxocobalamin

Follow that kidney diet
So, I found this online group, fed myself a strict kidney diet, and,of course, NO
NSAIDs
. For pain, I chose edibles. For inflammation, I have a lot of ginger in my food and take turmeric with ginger capsules. My latest gfr was 60 and I'm almost to normal range for creatinine and protein.

Methotrexate not working & now chronic neck pain
I explained that my wrist pain is secondary now, and that my neck bothers me 24/7, even with maximum
NSAIDs
, but they just keep saying that it's 'wear and tear' due to my age. I'm 49 and was cycling 130 miles in a day just over a year ago with NO pain.

Methotrexate FDA warning.

Looking for answers
I also have an autoimmune disease that keeps me from being able to take any type of hormone medication as well as
NSAIDs
like Motrin and naproxen. I seriously want a hysterectomy, but because of my age my GYN won’t do it. Is there anything I can do to alleviate the pain and swelling?

What do you take for these other than
nsaids
. Also, I’ve heard caffeine and cheese can bring these on. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for any info!

Good CA125 result again
More info is coming out regularly re aspirin and ibuprofen/other
NSAIDs
as agents against cancer. See my last post a few days ago. It seems oncologists are willing these days to recommend or agree to use of aspirin in particular, 75mg once daily to try to prevent cancer recurrence.

Paracetamol does not work
For myself I found
NSAIDS
to be far more effective against inflammatory pain. Even opiates make almost no difference to me when I am feeling RA pain. Diclofenic works a treat, but that is also really, really bad for you.

Holistic anti-inflammatory ideas
I’m unable to take
nsaids
d/t stomach ulcers from them and basically love on Tylenol which doesn’t help during a flare as you all know. My only hope for pain control for now is disease control which is touch and go at best. Thanks in advance for your input!😍
