Transplant and BKV Realities
I received my kidney transplant 8 1/2 months ago. The surgery went so well and the transplant has been a new lease on life in so many ways. As I have posted here, I have dealt with a near-constant onslaught of infections (C-dif x2, UTI, Sepsis, BKV, CMV), the most recent resulting in 2 weeks spent in

Famous Kidney Transplant People
I am watching Modern Family (rerun and the series is now ended) and remembered that Sarah Hyland, the oldest daughter, Hailey, of Claire and Phil on the show, was transplanted with a kidney when she was younger by a donation from her father. It failed and she got another transplant.I read that she said

So I'm trying to find ways to get motivated to exercise. I want to lose weight in preparation for a transplant. I have no donor yet, but I was told I would gain weight from steroids taken after your transplant. Can anyone give more insight on that? I at least want to try. I'm on my second week of clean

Scared I might have lung cancer
Home About Cancer Cancer Chat Post I have a cough most of my life, but just lately I have had a horrible, relentless tickly cough, to the point I gag, and pee myself! I went to AnE in February for a cough that was really hurting my ribs.... They saw me and sent me to ambulatory care. They did test

I'm post Kidney Transplant with many problems, and one is Osteoporosis. My Endocrinologist wanted to put me on Reclast and I declined. Now, he wants to put me on Prolia. There seems to be many side effects to this also. I was on Fosomax and had many bad abdominal side effects. I'm told these are my

ARTIFICIAL LIVER
Good news , maybe we don’t have to wait for a liver transplant after all. I didn’t realise that machines existed that can carry out the function of the liver, at this stage they are external like kidney dialysis. Would think you have to hooked up permanently as the liver is always working.

THE “C” WORD
Before I get kicked off this forum, “C” stands for Cirrhosis. And yes on my ultrasound report it mentions the dreaded “C” word. But there really is no difference between Cirrhosis and fybrosis except the degree of fybrosis at some arbitrary stage is classed as Cirrhosis. Immediately we hear or see

I completed collection of my stem cells for future transplant if needed. 9 days down there - 21 appointments. The Bone Marrow Transplant Center at the Mayo, does not mess

Life insurance ??
Good afternoon, lovely sunny Sunday here in Norfolk? 🌞So my partner and I have finally moved, but I'm struggling with getting anyone to accept me for life insurance to cover my mortgage as I have RA and have had lung surgery?.... Has anyone else had this happen, or know of any companies that would provide

Does anyone have experience of Lenvatinib as a treatment for liver cancer?
I was diagnosed with liver cancer at the end of September last year, 2022. After a scan I was told that I had one large tumour and several smaller ones, that the large tumour was near the main artery and was of a size that ruled out conventional treatment, liver transplant, radiotherapy, embolisation

Prognosis Stage
My husband had throat cancer and was cleared in 2017. Then lung cancer last year, was cleared but its now returned. He is currently receiving Immunotherapy as chemotherapy wasn't helping. My question is why when we ask the consultant or her Registrar for a prognosis they don't know, we haven't been told

Adenocarcinoma lung cancer
hi my mum has just been diagnosed with possible stage3-4 Adenocarcinoma if the right lung and her lymph nodes are inflamed, the cancer is contained in the lungs currently. We are waiting for an oncologist appointment to discuss treatment. We are all in shock as the consultant says mum may only have months

Stoma reversal
I have just had a liver transplant and went back for my first check up, everything is going so well so far. While I was waiting for my liver transplant I had an emergency Stoma surgery and had a bag fitted, the surgeon that gave me my first check up for my liver said in about six months or so they will

Immune Responses + Autoimmune Myelofibrosis
There were some posts a few weeks ago on adverse immune responses after vaccination for people using interferons. I had this experience while transitioning form HU to Peg, firstly with a covid jab last December and secondly with the first of the Shingrix jabs in March, which triggered, at the very least
