LDL test
Anyone struggled to get a blood test with an
LDL
result? My GP only seems to be able to get one which gives non HDL which is apparently not the same. Cardiologist asking for
LDL
result and can't understand why I can't get it.

update and advice please
For info, I was also showing as pre diabetic and my total cholesterol was up, although the ratio between
LDL
and HDL was about 3.5. All bloods taken between 8.30 -9 am, no meds for 24 hrs and only water to drink before blood draw.

Help with blood tests please - Triglycerides high again
LDL
down from 3.4 in April to 3.25 now- still slightly over ref range HDL - up from 1.45 to 1.52 in range total cholesterol - up from 5.5 to 5.66 (don’t understand why it’s up if HDL is up and
LDL
is down?)

Pcsk9
I have chronic renal failure stage 3 , have had aerotic valve surgery, also fairly high
ldl
cholesterol, prediabetes because of simvastatin, nhs will not authorize pcsk9 inhibitors for me , it seems that the nhs would prefer you to become diabetic than give better drugs without side effects

Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe
Greetings, Currently on 20mg of Rosuvastatin and discussing with my cardiologist about reducing the statin and adding ezetimibe to achieve my target
LDL
of 50 but with a lower dose of statin. I work out a lot and do get a lot of muscle spasms..etc.

Some (relative) good news
He wants my
LDL
to be below 60 however. Is it possible to get your cholesterol too low? I know high levels are bad. I'm hoping the walking I'm doing will help and I can stay away from Lipitor. I don't need or want muscle or bone pain.

New here. Hashimotos and cholesterol.
Still, my
LDL
cholesterol is 4.8, should be 3. GP is suggesting to start be on statins. I have read about cholesterol issues caused by hashimotos - is there anything else I can to try to lower my cholesterol before going on statins? Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏼

Hashimotos for Sixteen Years, Realizing I Know Next to Nothing
LDL
went down but it's still high.) What gives? Of course I've googled everything, and it does appear thyroid can affect all of these (except maybe lipoprotein.) And, I'm getting older. (63 now.) Maybe this is just how it goes? You expect to see things start to fail?

Thyroid result questions
More worryingly my overall cholesterol is 7.2 with
LDL
4.46. My Dr would like to test again in 6 months but has suggested statins if it doesn't come down. Any tips? And any observations and advice in general on my thyroid results and dose? Thank you 😊

Atorvastatin
I had been resisting my GPs' calls to take statins for some years having pointed out to them that although they were saying a total cholesterol level around 6 was too high the ratio of HDL to
LDL
was good. About eighteen months ago I acquiesceded and started taking Atorvastatin.

Prostate Cancer and Statins
The jury seems to be out on whether high HDL levels are of benefit in combatting high
LDL
levels. My GP wants me to go on statins. I had hoped to continue trying to mitigate the high overall and
LDL
levels through diet and exercise, but I get the feeling it might be time for statins.

Update on cholesterol levels
This was only detected due to investigation following lifelong high cholesterol (
ldl
4.9) Long story short, following 6 weeks of Rosuvastatin 10mg and a relatively strict Mediterranean diet regime (though my diet was pretty good before). my latest blood tests have my
ldl
down to 1.5.
