Fasting Insulin.
The latest Life Extension magazine has a lead article on fasting insulin. With insulin resistance, the pancreas produces increased amounts of insulin (as long as the beta cells hold out.) This is refected in fasting insulin levels. Glucose and A1c may look normal when the above strategy is working

Looking for advice after recent chest pain.
Bloods from August this year showed a cholesterol of 5, triglycerides of 1.5, HDL of 1.3,
LDL
of 3, and HbA1c of 37. ECG on 28th November showed sinus rhythm with a PR interval of 140ms, QTc of 412ms and there was no ischemia. I had a previous exercise tolerance test in 2016 which was positive.

Do natural supplements work to reduce high cholesterol?
I haven't seen the results but my GP mentioned 300 for my
LDL
(bad cholesterol). Interestingly my good cholesterol (HDL) was also high which she found quite surprising. She mentioned taking statins. I declined for various reason which she understood.

Potential underactive thyroid
hi, I’ve had to go private for fertility investigations after loss and have had some more intensive thyroid testing done after the NHS advised no concerns. I’m hoping someone can give me some guidance based on my results as I’m quite lost with what to do/where to go next. TSH levels Oct 2019:

People with high blood levels of niacin, (vitamin B3), may be more likely to have a heart attack or stroke than those with lower levels
Niacin was one of the first treatments prescribed to lower
LDL
or “bad” cholesterol. However, eventually niacin showed to be less effective than other cholesterol-lowering drugs and was associated with other negative effects and higher mortality rates in previous research."

ARE STATINS MAKING ME DIABETIC
My
LDL
was 1.4 its 0.8 on the higher dose , which is not that different and my cholesterol was 2.9 and its down to 2.3 on the higher dose , so not much difference by doubling the dose. However my cardiologist tells me all the research to halt the progression is based on the 40g dose.

PSA rising during triplet therapy. What to ask the oncologist?
Hello to this wonderfully helpful community, my dad's initial PSA was extremely high (3103), so I don't know what to expect. The treatment has been going for four months and a half since ADT (2 months and a half since Zytiga and Docetaxel was added). He started ADT on December, Zytiga and Docetaxel

Effects of Coconut
Coconut is said to increase both HDL and
LDL
. HDL is supposed to help cleaning up bad cholesterol. Then how come
LDL
also is increasing along with HDL. If coconut is helping to increase HDL, why is it not helping bad cholesterol, why both HDL and
LDL
are increasing?

Latest Bloods - Dr requested a review
An update after my last post in February. Dr put my Levo up by 25mcg, so I have been taking 125mcg per day since the beginning of March. Due to no appts, I’ve eventually got the bloods done that I requested through the GP. They’ve just texted me a routine appt for May, after the Dr has reviewed my results

Fear over risk of CVD / Heart problems
However in May 2023, I again just felt off and decided again to check but this time get a full health check blood test, this is where things got scary, my total cholesterol, my
LDL
cholesterol had both jumped to borderline high, not enough to be on statins, but not in the optimal ranges.
